The CNAs in the long-term care (LTC) setting will serve as the primary, consistent caregiver for residents, focusing on maintaining their safety, comfort, and dignity over extended periods. This role emphasizes building ongoing relationships with residents who have chronic illnesses, disabilities, or cognitive impairments. The successful candidates will provide routine daily care, assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), and monitor resident conditions under the supervision of a licensed nurse (LPN/RN). This position requires a passion for elderly care, patience, and the ability to foster a nurturing, home-like environment.
Key Responsibilities Personal Care Assistance:
Perform bathing, grooming, oral care, dressing, and toileting to help residents maintain hygiene and dignity.
Mobility and Safety:
Safely transfer residents between beds and wheelchairs, assist with walking using gait belts, and turn/reposition bedridden residents to prevent pressure sores.
Nutritional Support:
Serve meals, feed residents requiring assistance, and monitor food/fluid intake to ensure proper nutrition and hydration.
Clinical Monitoring:
Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature) and report any significant changes in condition (e.g., skin issues, behavior shifts) to the nursing staff.
Environmental Maintenance:
Keep resident living areas clean, safe, and tidy, including changing bed linens.
Emotional Support:
Provide companionship, encourage social interaction, and assist in engaging residents in recreational activities.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of care provided.
Requirements:
Certification:
Active CNA license/certification in the state of Virginia.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Previous experience in a nursing home or long-term care setting is preferred.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition residents, often requiring the ability to lift up to 35-50+ lbs.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication, compassion, patience, and empathy.
