Job Description

General Information:
Job title: Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)
  • Operating Rooms Schedule:
    Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday
  • Thursday, 7:00am
  • 5:30pm Weekend rotation: No Weekends Holiday rotation:
Paid Holidays Position Summary:
The Certified Nurse Assistant performs direct nursing care for pediatric through geriatric patients in the Operating Room.
Position Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a RN, works effectively in the delivery of pre and post-surgery patient care.
Performs pre-surgical cares:
CHG wash, hair clipping of surgical site, normothermia care, assist with patient positioning.
Performs post-surgical cares:
administers ice pack, sitz baths, normothermia care, position/elevation of extremities, observance of bleeding to surgical dressing, interdepartmental and discharge escort. Provides for the surgical patient's activities of daily living, assists with toileting needs, comforts needs, transfers, ambulation, deliver of/assistance with food/fluid intake. Performs I&O, checks vital signs and weight, performs fingerstick glucose testing and specimen collection/transport of specimen to lab as requested. Reports observations of the patient to the nurse caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment. Promptly answers patient's call lights and requests, responding in a tactful, courteous, nonjudgmental manner. Respects patient need for privacy, explains cares to the patient, and treat the patient as an individual with dignity. Maintains patient confidentiality. Instills confidence in the patient by maintaining a neat and attractive appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner. Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation. Performs documentation timely, accurately and thoroughly according to standards. Utilizes resources and materials in an efficient and safe manner. Consistently washes hands before and after patient care/contact and maintains isolation techniques as warranted. Perform other duties as requested.
Position Requirements:
High school graduate preferred. Certified Nursing Assistant certification required. BLS within 3 months of hire. Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Intermediate proficiency with computers is required. Comprehensive nursing assistant skills. Ability to provide compassionate care. Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with co-workers, patients, and supervisors is essential.
