Position Title:
Resident Care Director, Assisted Living Overview:
The Resident Care Director, Assisted Living is responsible for the strategic oversight, clinical leadership, regulatory compliance, operational management, resident care, staffing, and quality assurance of one Assisted Living neighborhood. This role ensures residents receive exceptional, person-centered care while maintaining compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulations and standards. The Resident Care Director is responsible for ensuring residents experience dignity, safety, independence, meaningful engagement, and the highest possible quality of life through oversight of caregiving, nursing coordination, life enrichment collaboration, and daily operations within the Assisted Living neighborhood. This position maintains a therapeutic environment that supports residents and families while promoting excellence in assisted living care delivery. The performance of duties within this position is in accordance with the mission, values, and hospitality philosophy of the organization. This position reports to the Senior Director of Health Services
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Clinical Oversight & Resident Care Assumes twenty-four hour responsibility and accountability for services provided within the Assisted Living neighborhood Directly responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident care and services Ensure individualized care plans reflect resident needs, preferences, functional abilities, and changes in condition Monitor resident well-being, incidents, falls, hospitalizations, and care outcomes Complete all potential new resident assessments and review admission appropriateness for the Assisted Living neighborhood Coordinate admissions, transfers, and return from leave of absences including evaluations, required paperwork, service planning, and care coordination Conduct routine rounds to monitor quality of care, engagement, safety, cleanliness, and resident satisfaction Support nursing staff with resident emergencies, family concerns, and clinical decision-making Respond to resident emergencies and provide first aid as needed, including activation of emergency medical services (911) when appropriate Assist with monitoring medication administration practices and medication-related concerns to ensure compliance with physician orders and regulatory requirements Oversee Limited Nursing Services and Extended Congregate Care documentation, assessments, care plans, and related processes as applicable AHCA Compliance & Regulatory Leadership Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and accrediting body regulations and standards Serve as the designated leader responsible for Assisted Living AHCA compliance and survey readiness within the neighborhood Maintain compliance with resident rights, infection control, life safety, documentation, staffing, and care regulations Lead regulatory surveys, audits, investigations, and plans of correction Investigate incident reports and implement appropriate follow-up actions and risk reduction measures Ensure proper documentation systems and operational practices are maintained at all times Complete audits related to documentation, medication practices, care delivery, and resident records to ensure compliance with policies and procedures Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement Oversee implementation of quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives related to resident care and services Monitor quality indicators including falls, infections, hospitalizations, medication concerns, and resident outcomes Develop corrective action plans and ensure follow-through on improvement opportunities Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve resident outcomes and operational effectiveness Maintain continuous survey readiness and operational excellence Leadership, Staffing & Team Development Provide strategic oversight and direction of the Assisted Living neighborhood Supervise caregiving staff, nursing support staff, and assigned associates within the neighborhood Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, counseling, coaching, and disciplinary action of associates as needed Conduct annual and ongoing performance evaluations for assigned staff Ensure appropriate staffing levels and support scheduling needs when necessary Promote staff accountability, professionalism, resident-centered care, and meaningful engagement practices Identify staff training needs and coordinate ongoing education and competency development related to: Assisted Living care standards Resident-centered caregiving Communication and customer service Safety and emergency response procedures Regulatory compliance and quality care standards Foster a collaborative and resident-focused environment throughout the Assisted Living neighborhood Resident Engagement & Family Communication Ensure meaningful engagement and quality of life opportunities are incorporated throughout daily resident routines Collaborate with Life Enrichment for review and approval of the monthly Assisted Living calendar and activities for the neighborhood Ensure activities and programming support residents' emotional well-being, preferences, and functional abilities Monitor resident participation and satisfaction to support resident-centered care planning Regularly participate in family conferences, care plan meetings, and interdisciplinary case conferences Maintain communication with residents, families, responsible parties, physicians, therapists, case managers, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care Provide support, reassurance, education, and resources to families regarding resident care needs and aging-related concerns Encourage family involvement and partnership whenever possible Address resident and family concerns promptly and professionally Operations & Budget Management Develop and administer the operating budget for the Assisted Living neighborhood and maintain accountability for expenditures Monitor labor, supplies, and operational costs while maintaining quality resident care Assist with development and implementation of systems, processes, and operational improvements Responsible for ensuring Manager on Duty (MOD) coverage for the Assisted Living neighborhood, including participation in the MOD rotation and coordination of leadership support as needed Support internal and external marketing efforts for Assisted Living services and occupancy growth Serve as a liaison within the Gainesville community including hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, providers, and external partners Additional Responsibilities Adhere to all company policies and procedures Attend required education, training, and in-service programs Maintain confidentiality of resident, family, and organizational information Respond to fire alarms and assist with evacuation procedures when necessary Cooperate with all departments to support overall community operations Represent the organization through professional demeanor, communication, and appearance Provide exceptional customer service to residents, families, guests, and staff Perform additional duties as assigned
CRITICAL SKILLS & EXPERTISE
Strong clinical assessment and leadership abilities Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with older adults Compassionate, calm, patient, and reassuring approach Strong regulatory, compliance, and risk management knowledge Ability to supervise and develop staff fairly and effectively Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment in stressful situations Strong collaboration skills with residents, families, physicians, staff, and leadership Self-motivated, organized, and solution-oriented
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, walk, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds Prolonged standing and walking throughout the community while conducting rounds and responding to resident needs
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor environment including resident apartments and common areas Potential exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids Fast-paced healthcare and residential environment requiring flexibility and responsiveness
You Have:
Current and valid Florida LPN or RN license required Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related healthcare field preferred Minimum one to three years of management experience in assisted living, skilled nursing, or geriatric healthcare setting Knowledge of AHCA regulations and assisted living compliance standards CPR certification required Successful completion of all required pre-employment screenings including health, TB, and FDLE clearance Genuine passion for serving older adults in an assisted living environment
