  • Varies (we have rotations available on each given day of the week 12 hours plus 3 hours prep time) positions is in Lancaster It is the belief of the faculty of the Nursing Department at Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing that each member should have defined responsibilities and that the Nursing Department accepts the responsibility of supporting its members in the achievement of both departmental and individual professional goals.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct RN Clinical Instructor
  • Mental Health Nursing provides clinical supervision and instruction to ADN students in psychiatric and behavioral health settings.
The instructor facilitates the application of nursing theory to clinical practice, ensuring students deliver safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care. This role supports student development in communication, critical thinking, and clinical judgment while maintaining compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Instruction and Supervision Supervise and instruct students during mental health/psychiatric clinical rotations in hospitals and community-based settings. Guide students in delivering safe, therapeutic, and evidence-based care to patients with mental health conditions. Facilitate clinical learning in areas including: Therapeutic communication Mental health assessment Psychopharmacology basics Crisis intervention and de-escalation Group therapy and milieu management Ensure adherence to clinical site policies, safety protocols, and standards of care. Student Evaluation and Feedback Evaluate student clinical performance through direct observation, care plans, process recordings, and clinical assignments. Provide timely, constructive feedback to support development of clinical judgment and professional behavior. Complete midterm and final evaluations in accordance with program policies. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and competencies. Clinical Coordination and Communication Collaborate with clinical site staff to coordinate student assignments and learning opportunities. Communicate clinical objectives, expectations, and daily assignments clearly to students. Serve as a liaison between the nursing program and clinical facility personnel. Ensure clinical experiences align with course objectives and program outcomes. Mentorship and Student Support Serve as a professional role model demonstrating ethical, compassionate, and culturally competent care. Support students in developing confidence, accountability, and therapeutic communication skills. Foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive clinical learning environment. Professional Development and Compliance Maintain current clinical competency in mental health/psychiatric nursing practice. Stay current with evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements, and standards of care. Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and California BRN regulations . Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required ; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Licensure Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in California . Experience Minimum of one (1) year of continuous, full-time or equivalent experience providing direct patient care as an RN in mental health/psychiatric nursing within the past five (5) years (BRN requirement). Teaching/Precepting Experience Prior clinical teaching, precepting, or mentoring experience preferred.
Clinical Competency Demonstrated expertise in:
Psychiatric and behavioral health nursing Therapeutic communication techniques Crisis intervention and patient safety Psychosocial assessment Communication and Interpersonal Skills Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Technical Skills Ability to utilize electronic health records (EHR) and learning management systems (LMS).
WORK SCHEDULE
Part-time / Adjunct Clinical hours based on assigned rotations (day, evening, or weekend shifts)
