ADJUNCT CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR
- MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING (ADN PROGRAM)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct Clinical Instructor- Medical-Surgical Nursing provides clinical supervision and instruction to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) students in acute care settings.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Instruction and Supervision Supervise and instruct ADN students during medical-surgical clinical rotations in healthcare facilities. Guide students in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered care to adult patients with acute and chronic conditions. Support student learning in areas including: Patient assessment and clinical decision-making Medication administration Care planning and implementation Documentation and communication Infection control and patient safety Ensure compliance with clinical policies, procedures, and safety standards at all times. Student Evaluation and Feedback Evaluate student clinical performance through direct observation, skills validation, and clinical assignments. Provide immediate, constructive feedback to support development of clinical judgment and technical skills. Complete required clinical evaluations (midterm and final) in accordance with program policies. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, competencies, and performance. Clinical Coordination and Communication Collaborate with clinical site staff to coordinate student assignments and learning opportunities. Communicate clinical objectives, expectations, and daily assignments clearly to students. Serve as a liaison between the nursing program and the clinical facility. Ensure clinical experiences align with course objectives and student learning outcomes. Mentorship and Student Support Serve as a professional role model demonstrating safe, ethical, and compassionate nursing care. Support students in developing confidence, accountability, and critical thinking skills. Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive clinical learning environment. Professional Development and Collaboration Maintain current clinical competency in medical-surgical nursing practice. Stay current with evidence-based practice, healthcare trends, and regulatory standards. Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable Board of Nursing regulationESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required ; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Licensure Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable CA state. Experience Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing within the last five years. Teaching/Precepting Experience Prior clinical teaching, precepting, or mentoring experience preferred, but not required.Clinical Competency Demonstrated expertise in:
Adult health and medical-surgical nursing Patient assessment and care planning Medication administration and safety Clinical documentation and communication Communication and Interpersonal Skills Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
