Job Description
Instructor, Nursing Clinical
Reports to:
Director of Nursing and Allied Health
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing and willing to work towards Master of Science in Nursing
- Registered Nurse - current Kansas license in good standing with no disciplinary action pending
- 2 years' minimum experience in clinical nursing
- Current Basic Life Support certification from American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in nursing
- Recent clinical experience
- 1-year previous teaching experience
- 1-year experience in higher education
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty
- Knowledge of computers and current technology
Job Summary:
To provide instruction for clinical nursing courses, simulation and skill labs to students in the Nursing program. Provide input to the Director of Nursing and Vice President of Student and Academic Affair relative to new course development and program redesign. Prepare students to succeed in related employment.Essential Job Functions:
- Teach an appropriate load as required by the negotiated agreement
Clinical Supervision:
oSchedule, orient, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinicals, simulation, internships, observations, field experiences, other similar course, and graduation requirements oOversees clinical hours to ensure requirements are met. Communicates to instructors of student clinical hours on regular basis to ensure all requirements are met and concerns are addressed with missed clinical hours efficiently to faculty oGo with and overseePN & ADN
students during clinicals, maintaining a safe and active learning environment for the students oSchedule clinicals forPN & ADN
students through the scheduling platform the facilities use and prefer (email, calls, visits, etc.)Simulation and Skill Labs:
oAssist simulation and skills lab instructor oPrepare and demonstrate procedures in nursing simulation and skill labs, supervise students demonstrations; debrief and evaluate student performance oAssist with inventory management, set up and cleanup of simulation and skill labs- Maintain current knowledge, changes, and technology in the field, work with healthcare representatives to ensure current skills and techniques are taught in lab settings
- Identify, create, evaluate, modify, and implement outcomes, curricula, and assessments
- Deliver the approved course of study, maintain a student-oriented approach to education
- Provide individual and group instruction demonstrating thorough and accurate knowledge of the discipline of Professional Nursing
- Teach information, skills, and attitudes through a variety of instructional techniques/media supporting learning objectives identified for each course including critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical nursing judgment
- Identify, evaluate, implement, and modify instructional materials, technologies, methods based on student and industry assessments and feedback
- Evaluate student learning and teaching effectiveness through written, oral, practical and/or performance testing, ensuring that what it taught is evaluated
- Provide support and guidance to students with an aim toward retention and job placement, responsibilities may include advising, counseling students regarding career options, appropriate referrals, graduation requirements, and placement activities
- Develop and maintain an environment conducive to a high level of student learning, display a student-centered approach
- Verify and maintain records of student attendance, performance and provide frequent feedback to students regarding individual progress
- Conduct assessment of student performance, maintain accurate records of clinical evaluations and competencies, create and manage grading rubrics, submit grades in a timely manner
- Establish and maintain appropriate and adequate office hours, clinical schedules
- Assist in program assessment, accreditation, program review processes and activities to maintain program viability and effectiveness
- Work closely with other faculty, administration, and staff; attend meetings, serve on committees, collaborate with nurse faculty to prepare for class and lab instruction
- Participate in professional growth activities, certification training, and pursuing additional education required for this position
- Align clinical sites appropriate for the
PN & ADN
learning outcomes- Work with the DON and President of SATC to seek and obtain contracts with current clinical sites for PN and ADN programs
- Develops and maintains active partnerships with business/industry to establish good public relations and become aware of employment opportunities, changes, processes and job skills. This may be accomplished through industry visits/contacts/tours and professional organizations
- Participate in development and monitoring of program curriculum and student outcomes/assessment
- Collaborate with nursing faculty members to prepare for class, lab, and clinical instruction and show written evidence of preparation upon request
- Present enthusiastic, well prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities consistent with the course syllabus, as well as labs and clinical experiences compatible with course content
- Serve as academic advisor for students in the program; maintain advising records
- Maintain scheduled office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues
- Provide input for the departmental budge and work closely with nursing program staff to ensure that all assets, materials, supplies, etc. are properly managed
- Ensure that safe and reasonable precautions are implemented to protect students, equipment, and facilities
- Consistently demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and professionalism
- Participate in professional growth activities, certification training and pursuing additional education required for this position
- Work effectively with healthcare representatives to ensure that current skills and techniques are provided in the classroom and lab settings
- Attend nurse faculty meetings, staff meetings, college committees, and college activities as required by college administration
- At the cost of the employee: oMaintain current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas o Maintain current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association o Provide annual proof of negative tuberculosis screening o Provide annual proof of influenza vaccine o Maintain Health Insurance

- Promote the program and assist with student recruitment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional physical exertion to manually lift, carry, push, pull or move objects or materials less than 50 pounds
- Generally, involves 50% standing, 40% walking and 10% sitting, however some days may require much more walking and standing
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching
- Requires acute hearing and speaking skills
- Requires fine dexterity to type, enter data and provide written communications
- Use of standard office equipment including computers and general office equipment
- Work is performed in a busy and noisy environment
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing
- Requires traveling to various sites
- May require evening and weekend work
