Job Description:
STCC seeks a motivated and highly effective Nursing faculty member with current experience as a nurse and nursing instructor, including acute care-medical-surgical and long-term care clinical experience. The ideal candidate demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and judgment with strong communication skills and workflow management. A detail-oriented professional with excellent multi-tasking abilities and proven efficiency in managing day-to-day academic and clinical operations. This individual brings leadership and self-motivation to foster student success and faculty collaboration. They are skilled in leveraging technology to enhance teaching, simulation, and student learning outcomes, and adept at building and maintaining strong professional relationships. This position is dedicated to STCC's mission as an open-access institution that serves a diverse student population through high-quality, equitable nursing education in all program options.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The full-time faculty member will fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) collective bargaining agreement Contract and support the College's commitment to student success, as well as the School of Health and Patient Simulation's (SHPS) significant work to deliver innovative programs and pedagogies. The faculty member adheres to the policies, rules, and regulations of both SHPS and the College while fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships with cooperating agencies and the broader community. Faculty maintain open lines of communication across the College and actively engage in efforts to support SHPS, the Nursing Department, and the broader campus community in service to student success. This individual serves as a committed team member who contributes across all nursing program options and areas as directed by the Director of Nursing. This is a tenure-track faculty position.
Supervision:
Reports to the Director or Nursing, and Dean of SHPS Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Teach assigned lecture, clinical, and laboratory courses each semester as directed by the Director of Nursing, typically including two clinical groups and two nursing lab classes per semester unless otherwise assigned. Provide coverage and support across all Nursing Program options offered by the department. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to address program coverage needs including occasional schedule adjustments to support program continuity, accreditation requirements, or student needs. Participate in program planning, curriculum development, and evaluation activities for all program options as assigned. Maintain flexibility to support unanticipated program needs, including coverage for colleague absences, clinical site changes, or scheduling adjustments and alignment with contractual obligations. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Nursing curriculum in alignment with recommendations from the Program's Curriculum Committee. Actively participate in the Learning Resource Center and Patient Simulation Center, as assigned by the Director of Nursing Maintain open communication channels with the Clinical Coordinator, Lab Coordinator, Department Chair, and Director of Nursing concerning lab, clinical, and program needs Assess, document, and report student progress in accordance with program and College standards. Maintain records, as required by the Department, School, and College. Provide student guidance and academic counseling in fulfillment of contractual responsibilities. Represent or provide support for the Director of the Nursing Program when requested. Maintain active membership and participation in professional nursing organizations. Continuously update and strengthen professional knowledge, teaching skills, and clinical competencies. Promote and actively participate in interprofessional education and collaboration. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or the Dean of SHPS and consistent with the MCCC contract.
Classroom:
Collaborate as a team member to deliver course content in alignment with the STCC Nursing Curriculum, competencies, and student learning outcomes. Teach lecture content as assigned by the Director of Nursing. Evaluate, select and order textbooks and instructional resources, as appropriate. Prepare and post course materials to Blackboard/the College's learning management system. Develop, administer, and evaluate all testing and assessment materials. Understand, prepare, and manage the utilization of software and other technology (e.g., Exam Soft, Kaplan etc.) that supports student learning and program objectives. Assess and grade all student assignments in accordance with program standards and course requirements.
Clinical:
Instruct Nursing students in assigned clinical areas, up to the approved maximum enrollment. Instruct two clinical groups each semester unless otherwise assigned by the Director of Nursing. Select and assign appropriate patient experiences for students. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Nursing Program and assigned clinical agencies. Supervise, advise, and evaluate students' clinical practice and performance. Facilitate the development of students' active learning, clinical reasoning, and professional competencies. Review and provide feedback on written assignments, in alignment with curriculum standards. Understand, prepare, and manage the utilization of software and other technology that supports the program such as but not limited Skyscape, I-Human etc. Assess, document, and report student progress in the clinical setting. Conduct pre- and post-clinical conferences to support learning outcomes. Maintain confidentiality in all student and program-related matters. Complete collaborative reviews with the Clinical Manager to ensure alignment with agency and program expectations. Communicate regularly with the level coordinator and/or assigned faculty mentor. Serve as a liaison between the Nursing Program and clinical partners to strengthen collaboration and support student learning.
Learning Resource Center:
Teach two nursing lab classes (learning resource center and patient simulation) each semester unless otherwise assigned by the Director of Nursing. Participate in student advising per contractual obligations. Actively promote and participate in interprofessional education initiatives. Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Professional:
Maintain and continually update professional, clinical, and technological competencies. Attend Nursing Program orientation sessions and ongoing education for faculty/clinical instructors. Maintain competence in current computer technology. Meet all health and compliance requirements as outlined by the School, College, and clinical agencies. Complete orientation to assigned clinical facilities and units, as requested. Collaborate effectively with members of the interprofessional team. Attend faculty, leveled team meetings and other meetings as requested. Serve as a professional role model for nursing students, demonstrating excellence in clinical practice and professional behavior. Foster and maintain positive working relationships with hospital and agency staff. Communicate clinical needs and concerns to the Clinical Coordinator and/or Director of Nursing. Maintain accurate records as required by the School and College. Provide student guidance and academic counseling in fulfillment of contractual obligations. Represent or provide support for the Director of the Nursing Program when requested. Maintain active membership and participation in professional nursing organizations. Maintain and update professional and clinical competencies. Promote and engage in interprofessional education and collaboration. Participate in shared governance processes within the Program, School and College. Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of program policies. Actively participate in systematic evaluation of all components of the nursing program. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or the Dean of SHPS.
Requirements:
Master's degree or higher in Nursing or the equivalent in a nursing-related discipline. Minimum of 5 years nursing experience (required) and minimum of 2 years teaching experience (Community College teaching experience preferred). Initial and continued employment dependent upon meeting COR/SORI, National Background Check, drug testing, and medical and immunization requirements, including fully completed
COVID-19
Vaccination series. Unencumbered license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of MA. Familiarity with instructional technology, simulation, and learning management systems, with a commitment to integrate technology into teaching and learning.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties normally performed in a classroom/lab environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to remain stationary and move about inside an office, classroom or lab. Must be able to operate or use computer, office machinery, copier, calculator etc. This person frequently communicates with students, employees or the community. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations
