Position Title Full-Time Faculty, Nursing Simulation
Department
School of Nursing & Health Professions:
Nursing Position Summary This is a 9-month, full-time, campus-based faculty position in the Nursing Department, Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions, with responsibilities for teaching, student advising and mentoring, course development, service to the school, department, and university, and continued scholarship in the field. Teaching responsibilities include 24-30 contact hours per academic year in the campus-based Entry-Into-Practice (EIP) Nursing program, commensurate with rank, including but not limited to simulation, theory (didactic), and/or clinical experience hours. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment and retention; program assessment; and engagement in the life of the university. The faculty member, Nursing Simulation fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and the School of Nursing and Health Professions Full-Time Faculty Job Description. Rank and title are determined at the time of hire and will be commensurate with education and experience. Education/Experience Doctorate degree in nursing or a related field and a Master's degree in nursing required for the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. Master's degree in nursing required for the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. College level teaching experience, clinical nursing experience within the past 1-4 years, and at least two years of experience in nursing simulation are preferred. CPR certification is required and CNE or certification in area of clinical practice preferred. Must be Maryland Board of Nursing certified or eligible. Knowledge/Skills/Ability Demonstrated teaching ability in nursing, including the proficient use of high fidelity and other simulation systems in clinical education. Knowledge of current teaching/learning theories and processes in simulation education. Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills and demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies. Demonstrated ability to engage in curriculum development, planning, implementation, and assessment of student learning. Demonstrated ability to use pedagogies that enhance student engagement. Ability to use classroom and learning management technologies (e.g., Blackboard). Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and to practice inclusive pedagogy. Demonstrated student-centered approach to teaching, and a commitment to student achievement. Commitment to advising, mentoring and guiding students and supervising student scholarly activity. Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member. Excellent organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community. Commitment to professional development. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Database management and other computer skills are valued. Experience working with Blackboard or a similar learning management platform. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and to travel between campuses as needed.Physical Requirements Medium work:
exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy college environment on a campus with buildings and laboratories separated by some distance. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including days, evenings, and weekends. Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time. Essential Functions The essential functions for the full-time faculty member in nursing are taken from the Full-Time Faculty Job Description developed by the faculty of the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions. The exact percentage for each category is determined by the faculty member and the Program Director as part of the annual appraisal and professional development planning process.INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY
Engage in instructional activity totaling 24-30 contact hours per academic year as assigned by Academic Program Administrator (APA). Teaching assignments will include, but are not limited to theory, simulation, and/or clinical experience hours.Simulation instructional activity includes:
- Collaborating with nursing faculty to ensure the integration of simulation technology and education strategy in curriculum implementation.
- Collaborating with nursing faculty to develop and deliver learning experiences that align with course and clinical learning objectives.
- Facilitating simulation and skills-based learning experiences according to evidence-based standards and best practice guidelines.
- Utilizing web-based and online systems to manage documents related to simulation and skills-based learning objectives and course outcomes.
- Providing Clinical Supervisors in clinical courses with orientation and training in simulation as appropriate.
- Scheduling and management of simulation spaces and technology.
- Collaborating with nursing faculty/staff, Office of Information Technology, and external vendors as needed for maintenance and technical support of simulation equipment, including troubleshooting and testing equipment as needed.
SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY
Develop and maintain self-directed intellectual pursuits, including research, that enhance teaching effectiveness. Conduct self-directed research with students (bench, educational, or other) of a quality that could lead to presentation or publication, including presentation/publication in venues dedicated to undergraduate research. Engage in intellectual pursuits outside of the classroom that are related to professional interests (e.g., grant-writing, peer review, authorship of texts, chapters and journal articles). Attend workshops, meetings, and talks related to professional interests. Attend meetings of professional societies. Pursue and maintain clinical certification(s). Pursue and maintain advanced practice certification(s) as appropriate. Maintain current/relevant clinical nursing practice as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing to keep Registered Nurse license and enhance teaching/learning.SERVICE ACTIVITY
Department service includes contributing to student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; attending departmental and nursing unit meetings; participating in Open Houses, Accepted Students' Days and other recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental and nursing unit events; and establishing professional relationships to generate clinical placement opportunities for students. University service includes, but is not limited to, service on the University, School and Departmental committees. Engage and participate in the life and work of the department, Nursing Unit, School of Nursing and Health Professions, and Stevenson University. Attend all Faculty/Staff University, School, and Department meetings. Attend all convocations, including commencement exercises. Complete all required trainings and professional learning assignments. Participate in faculty governance. Mentor students (e.g., club moderator, mentoring programs- distinguished from guiding research or academic pursuits) Actively participate on Department, Nursing Unit, School, and University committees.
