Job Description

DEFINITION
To provide instruction to nursing students in classroom, lab and clinical environments. Onlineinstruction may be required. •This advertisement is to fill 9 month and 12 month faculty positions•
SUPERVISIONRECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from Associate Director, Associate Degree Nursing. May exercise functional and technical supervision over instructional assistants. Duties & Responsibilities(Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS
Essentialand other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
EssentialFunctions:
Provide classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction to students. Prepare lesson plans andschedule classroom activities; develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons. Develop and prepare teststo evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores. Act as an advisor and counselor to students; provideindividual assistance to students outside of the classroom as needed. Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment;develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate. Participate in curriculum development, evaluationand change; attend faculty meetings as required. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain otherrecords and data bases according to program needs or accreditation requirements. Stay abreast of new developments and changes invarious academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs asappropriate. Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area. Participate oncollege committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
Other Important Functions:
Fillin for other instructors as needed. Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluatevarious textbooks and other learning resources to be used for future classes. Assist in the recruitment of students. Oversee and participate in clinical assignments; travel to clinical agencies to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate. Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress andqualifications for graduation. Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances such as blood borne pathogens;continually undergo training and train students in such procedures. Demonstrate community involvement (required of all nursingfaculty). Participate in all functions related to implementation of the programs systematic plan for evaluation. Performrelated duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Classroom and laboratory instructionaltechniques and procedures. Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development. Current trends,research and development in the area of assignment. Principles and procedures of record keeping. Principles andtechniques involved in test development and administration. Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
Ability To:
Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules andregulations. Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Communicateclearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with thosecontacted in the course of work. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Makingobservations Reading and writing Communicating with others Operating assignedequipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously Maintain physical condition appropriate to theperformance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: Standing or sitting for extended periodsof time Operating assigned equipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capabilityof: Making sound decisions Responding to questions Demonstrating intellectualcapabilities
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
MinimumEducation/Training:
A Master's Degree in Nursing. Must have a current, unrestricted North Carolina RNlicense. Have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development,implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if employing organization ischanged. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following: (A) completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approvedcontinuing education courses; (B) completion of a certificate program in nursing education; (C) nine semester hours ofgraduate course work in adult learning and learning principles; (D) national certification in nursing education; or (E)documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board.

Criteria for approval shall include content in the faculty role in curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and evaluated,review of strategies for identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance. Haveknowledge of current nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.
MinimumExperience :
For nursing faculty, a minimum of two calendar years of prior full-time employment or theequivalent in clinical nursing practice as an RN.
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills :
Experience teaching in a nursing program that prepares graduates at entry level to take the
NCLEX-RN
is preferred. Supplemental Information This position
