Job Description

The Professor of Nursing shall report to the Director of Nursing. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide classroom instruction, online instruction (e.g. LPN to RN transition program), clinical, and laboratory supervision for associate degree nursing students; Evaluate students enrolled in associate degree nursing programs; Advise associate degree nursing students; Update and revise the curriculum for associate degree nursing programs; Develop nursing course syllabi each semester; Serve on college committees as assigned; Participate in ongoing nursing accreditation processes; Participate annually in an academic/professional process of continued personal and professional development; Actively participate in the institutional goals and objectives designed to support the mission of the college; Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified, in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College. Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) with the understanding that the candidate be successfully enrolled in a nursing Master's degree program (MSN) within one year from date of hire and complete that degree within five years. Earned graduate degree in nursing (MSN) is preferred. All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution. Candidates must have a minimum of two years clinical experience and must obtain or have a current New Mexico or multi-state nursing license in good standing. Prior successful teaching experience at the college level preferred. Prior experience with distance and/or virtual instruction at the college level preferred. Candidates should be able to work within a team-teaching concept. Computer proficiency required with skills in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Canvas proficiency desirable.

Should be informed and support the value and concept of a Comprehensive Community College. Should be informed and expected to participate in educational practices that promote student success. Must commit to fully understand, support, and participate in the New Mexico Junior College Assessment of Student Learning Guide. Must commit, support, and participate in successful, data-driven, high impact practices of Student Engagement. Must commit to the utilization of data and information as a means of inquiry and improvement of student learning outcomes. Must embrace a Faculty Evaluation system and Professional Development system that supports and promotes data driven student improvement. Must be willing to support and hold themselves accountable to the outcomes defined as, "excellence in education" by New Mexico Junior College. Must commit to the incorporation of Academic Goal Setting and Planning into the courses they teach. Must commit and embrace early alert, intervention strategies and grade reporting through the Canvas system. Must have a grasp of assessment and the part it plays in course, departmental, and institutional evaluation and direction.
OTHER SPECIFIC FACULTY QUALITIES
Must address multiple learning styles with a communication style that is stimulating, well organized, and based on a deep knowledge of the content area. Must deliver live and/or asynchronous online instruction aligned with curriculum standards. Must develop lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials for virtual learning. Monitor student attendance, participation, and academic progress. Provide timely feedback on assignments, assessments, and student performance. Foster a positive, respectful, and engaging online or in person classroom environment. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Utilize education technology platforms and learning management systems effectively. Must utilize creative ways to support and engage students in the learning process. Must meet the needs of a diverse student body. Must participate in professional development and staff meetings as required. Must seek ways to provide supplemental instruction. Must have open access to students during office hours. Must promote and support the New Mexico Junior College Academic Success Center and the academic coaching it provides. Must seek to meet or exceed the institutional, departmental, and course student learning outcomes. Must be of sound character and committed to New Mexico Junior College. This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship. This is a nine-month exempt position. Salary is based on the NMJC faculty salary schedule, commensurate with education and teaching experience.
