Job Description The Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks a dynamic and highly skilled Nurse Scientist with an established record of clinical scholarship to drive impactful clinical research, advance nursing outcomes in acute and subacute care, and foster interprofessional scholarship within a tertiary care academic practice partnership. This role integrates clinical expertise with innovative research to enhance patient outcomes and nursing practice through evidence-based approaches. The Nurse Scientist role is a cornerstone in the Orvis School of Nursing's commitment to advancing nursing science and transforming patient care through research, innovation, and interprofessional collaboration. The faculty will provide leadership to the Center for Nursing Outcomes Research within the Office of Research and Innovation. The Nurse Scientist will have a teaching role within the Orvis School of Nursing primarily focused on advancing undergraduate nursing education while supporting students and faculty across all academic levels. By delivering direct instruction and mentorship and integrating cutting-edge research into undergraduate curricula, they lay a strong foundation for students to bridge theory and practice effectively. The Nurse Scientist contributions to teaching include the following: Prioritizing undergraduate courses with innovative, research-informed teaching methods. Providing mentorship to undergraduate students, as well as to doctoral candidates and early-career faculty, to foster scholarly and professional development. Leading curricular initiatives that integrate research methods and findings into undergraduate nursing education. Faculty rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) will be determined commensurate with qualifications and experience, including the option of an Endowed Professorship. This position is for a B3, 12-month contract, non-tenure track OR tenure-track position. Required Qualifications PhD in nursing, clinical research, or other relevant research-focused doctoral preparation. A graduate degree in nursing (PhD, DNP, or MSN) is required. Minimum of five years of acute care nursing experience. Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Nevada or eligible for licensure in Nevada. Proven success in grant writing, with a preference for securing and managing NIH, PCORI, or similar funding sources. Strong analytical, statistical, and research skills with experience in diverse methodologies. Demonstrated leadership, team building, and project management abilities. Flexibility and openness to guided research and collaboration aligned with institutional and clinical priorities.
