Job Description

The Coordinator of the Simulation and Clinical Skills Lab is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all clinical skills and simulation activities for undergraduate and graduate nursing students at the assigned campus location. This role ensures effective use and ongoing readiness of simulation and skills lab spaces, including managing daily operations, identifying equipment needs, and maintaining inventory and supplies. The Coordinator provides direct instruction to nursing students at all program levels within the skills laboratory and simulation environment and collaborates closely with course faculty to support curriculum objectives related to clinical skills and simulation.
Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate all clinical skills and simulation activities for undergraduate and graduate nursing students at the assigned campus, ensuring effective scheduling and appropriate utilization of simulation and skills lab spaces.
  • Maintain ongoing readiness of all lab areas by preparing spaces for clinical skills practice and simulation sessions, securing and staging required equipment and supplies to support planned learning activities.
  • Guide and direct support staff in preparing the simulation and clinical skills areas to ensure consistent quality and alignment with course and program needs.
  • Manage day to day operational workflows, including identifying equipment needs for scheduled learning sessions, conducting proactive inventory assessments, and maintaining adequate supplies through timely ordering.
  • Participate in delivery of simulation based education, applying standardized principles of simulation practice and collaborating with faculty to support course objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Simulation, campus simulation staff, IT support and external vendors.
  • Engage in pre semester and post semester planning and evaluation meetings with faculty for courses involving clinical skills and simulation, contributing to continuous curriculum alignment and improvement.
  • Support Quality Improvement (QI) processes for simulation programs by participating in evaluation and ongoing program review activities.
  • Provide direct instruction to nursing students across all program levels within the skills laboratory and simulation environment, including participating in the remediation of students' skills performance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical practice standards to ensure that simulation and skills instruction reflects contemporary, evidence based best practices.
  • Serve as a professional role model, fostering open, effective communication and positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and initiatives to support programmatic continuity and alignment across the College.
  • Collaborate with the Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (JCIPE) to support interprofessional simulation and skills based learning activities.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the values of Jefferson in interactions with colleagues, students, visitors, and partners. In addition to the Essential Functions, the Coordinator of Simulation and Clinical Lab is also responsible for the following:
  • Support routine maintenance processes by coordinating repairs, reporting malfunctioning equipment, and ensuring timely vendor service when needed.
  • Provide supplemental orientation and guidance for new faculty, adjunct instructors, and support staff involved in simulation or skills based teaching.
  • Help ensure continuity of simulation programming across campus locations by participating in communication exchanges, collaborative planning, and shared resource review.
  • Support data collection for program review and internal reporting, including tracking simulation utilization, student participation, and quality improvement indicators.
  • Demonstrate effective problem solving, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize needs within a dynamic teaching environment.
  • Maintain a professional presence that fosters a supportive learning culture, modeling accountability, respect, and the values of Jefferson in all interactions.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge of simulation technology, pedagogy, and clinical best practices.
Qualifications:
Master's degree preparation or equivalent experience in nursing Licensure to practice professional nursing in the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Experience Requirements:
  • Academic appointment at the rank of Clinical Instructor (at a minimum) in a collegiate nursing program
  • Evidence of experience and engagement with skills labs/simulation experiences
  • Evidence of progressive academic responsibilities
  • Evidence of effective teaching
