Position Summary The Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions invites full-time faculty candidates for Assistant Professor/Associate Professor or Professor to teach in the Doctor of Nursing Practice with Specialization in Anesthesiology (CRNA Program). Expectations include face to face, hybrid and hyflex teaching modalities across several geographical locations within the state of Texas. Occasional travel to clinical site classrooms for student engagement is expected and as directed by the CRNA Program Administrators. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. Credentials of finalist will determine final rank. Essential Functions Instructional Duties:
Participate in course and curriculum development and advancement of the program. Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi. Teach anesthesia principles and basic sciences in a variety of courses including select clinical residency courses and CRNA simulation labs which align with curriculum goals. May teach additional courses consistent with the needs of the department. Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met. Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses. Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours. Actively participate in student activities to promote student success and engagement. Deliver high quality web-mediated lectures in a variety of teaching modalities (face to face, hybrid and hyflex formats). Communicate timely with students, departments, and university officials via the learning management system and UIW applications. Advise, guide and contribute to student DNP scholarly project processes including IRB. Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course. Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom. Engage in scholarly research activities within the specialty OR Perform regular scholarly research and publication. Maintain required professional certifications and licensures within the industry. Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. Perform other duties as assigned.Program Administrative Duties:
Maintain program curriculum according to accreditation and university standards. Comply with policies and procedures that are consistent with the overall mission of the school and in compliance with accreditation standards and other regulatory agencies. Assist with recruitment and enrollment of students. Market and promote the program. Provide formative and summative student feedback to students, peers and program administrators. Engage in clinical practice to maintain professional skills and serve as a model/resource for faculty and students. Create an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. In collaboration with the Program Director/Chair, participate in strategic, institutional, and service planning for the program and School. Travel as needed to promote student success in clinical learning environments. Attend professional local, state and national meetings to inform practice. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) scope of practice and professional requirements and national standards. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and mentorship skills. Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Effective and innovative instructional delivery. Proficiency in the use of instructional technology both face to face and distance education. Ability to actively engage students in the learning process. Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom. Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, School and regulatory agencies. Required Education PhD, MD, DNP, DNAP or clinical doctorate in higher education with a focus on nursing, anesthesiology and or pharmacology. A PhD in a related science field may be considered to teach the basic sciences, pharmacology and principles of anesthesiology. Required Work Experience Two (2) years of full-time clinical experience in related fields. Documented mentorship experiences either in academic setting or clinical setting. Preferred Qualifications CRNA, MD or PhD in related science field, with focus on anesthesiology and pharmacology. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations Certification and licensures in related fields (CRNA, MD, RPh). Current certification/recertification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or related science field. Current unencumbered license or privilege to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), MD or RPh in the State of Texas or ability to obtain by assignment start date. Work Hours Typically, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm with extended hours needed, to include occasional work on the weekend, based on departmental needs to meet departmental goals. Physical Demands Ability to actively engage in program events for extended periods of time. Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
