Job Description
JOB About the PositionAs the Charge Nurse, this position provides direction to staff on shift to provide appropriate, world-class patient care to patients going through the judicial system. In this role, you will be responsible for providing clinical direction and guidance for health assessments, clinical interventions, and more to ensure efficiency within our ITR (Intake, Transfer, and Release) facility.

Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZWe RequireTwo years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital or ambulatory care settingA valid, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license stateWe Also ValueExperience in a correctional settingCertified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP)Experience serving as a lead/senior nurse or in another capacity that involves clinical oversight of other nurses or medical staffExperience managing workflow at a correctional booking facility similar to Maricopa County's Intake Transfer and Release Center or other similarly high-volume intake facilityJob ContributionsFunctions as a lead nurse on shift; develops clinic assignments and duties of nursing staff to ensure that patient care needs are metSupports the ITR Nurse Manager and Supervisor with initiatives to maintain clinic compliance with NCCHC and organizational standardsIn partnership with nursing leadership, communicates and drives operational improvement and change management initiatives within the clinic(s)Supports ITR nursing staff growth and development by mentoring and providing guidanceProvides on-site orientation to new staff following new employee orientation, including outlining job responsibilities, policies and procedures, and proper use of equipmentCreates and maintains an inclusive work environment that respects diverse ideas, backgrounds, and styles. Creates, drives, and maintains a positive employee cultureAnalyzes ITR needs and makes recommendations to the Nursing Manager or SupervisorEnsures that any bottlenecks are addressed and minimized in pre-booking at the ITRReviews nursing documentation and Electronic Health Record queues to ensure that nursing tasks are completed (ID Screening, TB reads, Health Assessments, Facility Moves, Alerts, Sick Call Appointments, etc.)Ensures the availability of equipment and supplies necessary for the daily operation of the clinicCommunicates with nursing staff on shift and provides direction to optimize workflows.
Ensures that anything medically necessary is completed before patients are moved out of ITR to an assigned housing locationWorking ConditionsAbility to work inside a jail and stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift, accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, decision making, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasksPosition includes day or night shift work, which may include weekends and holidaysAbility to travel or float to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radiusAbility to respond to emergencies and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurneyActive and valid BLS, CPR, and First Aid Certifications that meet the AHA curriculum standards, with in-person skills test and hands-on demonstration components, are required upon hireMust be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail accessSelection ProcedureConsideration will only be given to candidates who submit online applicationsCandidates will be contacted primarily through email and their Workday online application profileMust pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive Maricopa County is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants.
