The Roxbury Institute Surgical Center Reports to: Director of Operations Works closely with: Surgeons, Anesthesia Providers, OR Manager, OR staff, Vendors Position Summary The Roxbury Institute is seeking a hands-on Nurse Manager to provide clinical and operational leadership for perioperative services at our Los Angeles surgical center, where we serve lipedema patients from around the world through our Advanced Lipedema Treatment program, alongside plastic and reconstructive surgery services. This role is responsible for the safe, efficient, compliant, and patient-centered operation of the center's two operating rooms, with direct oversight of OR staff and active participation in daily clinical operations. The ideal candidate will lead from both the floor and the office, circulate cases, support PACU/recovery, coordinate room turnovers, and solve real-time operational issues, while also owning key leadership responsibilities such as staffing, quality, accreditation readiness, policy oversight, and overall perioperative workflow performance. This is a high-impact opportunity for a leader who values clinical excellence, operational discipline, and compassionate patient care. Key Responsibilities 1) Clinical Leadership and Hands-On Patient Care- Serve as the clinical leader for perioperative nursing practice across pre-op, intra-op, PACU, and immediate post-operative workflow.
- Perform 1-day post-operative follow-up checks, including patient assessment and administration of IV fluids as needed.
- Actively work in the department as needed, including but not limited to: o circulating cases o assisting with recovery/PACU coverage o supporting patient flow and handoffs o assisting with room turnovers and case readiness o stepping into staffing gaps or high-volume periods
- Model high standards of safety, professionalism, urgency, and patient-centered care.
- Ensure excellent patient and family experience throughout the surgical journey. 2) Staff Leadership and Supervision
- Oversee OR staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and scheduling for OR team members.
- Clarify role expectations, competencies, accountability, and workflows for all OR staff.
- Build a strong team culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, communication, and respectful care. 3) Daily Operations of the Two Operating Rooms
- Oversee daily operations for both operating rooms to ensure safe, efficient scheduling and throughput.
- Manage staffing assignments based on case mix, acuity, surgeon needs, and patient safety.
- Monitor and improve room utilization, first-case on-time starts, turnover times, recovery flow, and end-of-day closeout.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, vendors, and operational leaders to maintain smooth case execution.
- Anticipate and resolve operational barriers that affect case flow, staffing, or patient care. 4) Quality, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain ongoing readiness for accreditation, licensure, and regulatory surveys.
- Lead and support compliance with all applicable clinical, safety, infection prevention, medication, documentation, and emergency preparedness requirements.
- Own and maintain perioperative policies, procedures, competencies, logs, audits, and required records.
- Lead incident review, root cause follow-up, corrective action planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure crash cart readiness, medication/security standards, sterile practice adherence, environmental safety, and documentation integrity. 5) Accreditation and Program Oversight
- Serve as the primary nursing/clinical lead for accreditation and survey preparedness.
- Maintain an organized state of readiness rather than periodic "catch-up" preparation.
- Partner with leadership to identify risks, gaps, and priorities related to compliance and operational excellence.
- Support development of scalable systems and SOPs aligned with TRI's broader operational goals. TRI has identified SOPs, job descriptions, and operational process clarity as organizational priorities. 6) Staffing, Scheduling, and Productivity
- Develop and manage staffing plans that balance patient safety, experience, and labor efficiency.
- Review schedules and anticipated case loads to ensure appropriate clinical coverage.
- Reduce avoidable overtime, staffing gaps, and workflow bottlenecks.
- Cross-train team members where appropriate to improve operational resilience.
- Recommend staffing model improvements as volume grows. 7) Supplies, Equipment, and Environment of Care
- Oversee clinical readiness of rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies in partnership with team members and vendors.
- Help maintain inventory standards that support efficiency without excessive waste.
- Escalate equipment, maintenance, or supply issues proactively.
- Ensure compliance with sterilization, storage, and infection prevention standards. 8) Communication and Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner closely with Director of Operations, Surgeons, Anesthesia Providers, and OR Manager.
- Support transparent communication across clinical and administrative teams.
- Participate in leadership meetings, operational planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute practical insight on how to improve patient flow, staff effectiveness, quality, and scale. Qualifications
- Active California RN license in good standing; BSN preferred
- BLS and ACLS required
- 5+ years of perioperative nursing experience, including circulating and PACU
- 3+ years of leadership experience in an OR, perioperative, or ambulatory surgery setting preferred
- Experience with accreditation, regulatory compliance, policy management, and quality oversight
- Demonstrated ability to lead staff while working hands-on in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Ambulatory surgery center experience preferred
- Experience in liposuction, plastic surgery, dermatologic surgery, or related procedural specialties preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong clinical judgment and commitment to patient safety
- Ability to lead calmly, professionally, and with accountability in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Knowledge of accreditation, regulatory, and compliance standards for surgical settings
