Los Angeles CA Requirements:
  • Bachelor's and RN required.

  • This jobs reports to Maternal Child Health Director.

Year Job Description:
A Labor and Delivery (L&D) Manager oversees the daily operations of a maternity unit while ensuring safe, high-quality care for mothers and newborns.
Common responsibilities include:
Clinical Leadership Supervise nursing staff, unit clerks, and support personnel in the Labor and Delivery unit Ensure safe patient care during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum periods Monitor compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and patient safety protocols Assist with emergency obstetric situations and coordinate rapid response efforts Support evidence-based maternal and newborn care practices Staff Management Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff Create staff schedules and manage staffing levels based on patient census and acuity Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching or corrective action when needed Facilitate staff education, orientation, and continuing competency programs Promote teamwork and positive workplace culture Patient Care Coordination Coordinate care among physicians, midwives, anesthesiologists, pediatric teams, and other departments Ensure smooth patient admissions, transfers, and discharges Address patient and family concerns professionally and promptly Monitor patient satisfaction and implement quality improvement initiatives Administrative Responsibilities Manage departmental budgets, supplies, and equipment Maintain accurate documentation and regulatory compliance Participate in accreditation preparation and audits Review incident reports and implement corrective actions when necessary Analyze unit performance metrics and develop improvement plans Quality & Safety Oversight Ensure infection control and safety standards are followed Monitor maternal and neonatal outcomes Lead quality assurance and risk management initiatives Implement policies related to fetal monitoring, medication safety, and emergency obstetric care Communication & Collaboration Serve as liaison between hospital leadership and L&D staff Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and hospital committees Collaborate with educators and clinical coordinators on staff development Communicate operational updates and policy changes to staff Typical Skills Required Strong leadership and decision-making abilities Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills Knowledge of obstetric and neonatal care standards Ability to manage emergencies in high-stress environments Organizational and scheduling expertise Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems #IND7
