Clinical Magnet (part of ICON Medical) is proud to partner with a respected community hospital in western Colorado to hire an experienced Medical Surgical Unit (MSU) Manager for a permanent leadership opportunity. Job Summary The MSU Manager will provide operational and clinical leadership for the Medical Surgical Unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, staff engagement, and efficient unit operations. This leader will oversee staffing, productivity, education, quality initiatives, and employee development while collaborating closely with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams. $53.00-$60.95/hour depending on experience and educationRelocation Assistance:
Available Key Responsibilities Provide daily leadership, direction, and oversight of the Medical Surgical Unit Ensure compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements Supervise, mentor, coach, and develop nursing staff to support engagement and professional growth Develop staffing schedules and manage staffing patterns based on patient census and acuity Monitor productivity, labor utilization, and workforce management initiatives Partner with nursing leadership and HR on recruitment, onboarding, retention, and employee relations Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective action plans when necessary Support staff education, competency validation, certifications, and career advancement Assist with departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and cost-containment initiatives Maintain readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, and regulatory surveys Participate in nursing leadership on-call rotation Occasionally provide direct patient care support during staffing shortages or high census periods Track and improve nurse-sensitive quality indicators and adverse events Collaborate with nursing leaders and float pool teams to optimize staffing resources Work closely with the Education Department regarding staff competency management Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred Current unrestricted Colorado RN license required Minimum of 3 years of nursing leadership experience required 5+ years of acute care nursing experience strongly preferred Medical Surgical leadership experience highly preferred BLS and ACLS certifications required prior to start PALS certification required within 6 months of hire TNCC or TCAR certification required within 6 months of hire NE-BC certification required within 3 years of hire or when eligible CCRN, PCCN, or other high-acuity certification preferred Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Life Insurance 403(b) Retirement Plan with Employer Match Paid Time Off Tuition/Education Assistance Wellness Program Free Parking Recognition Bonuses and Merit Increases Market Adjustments and Additional Incentive Opportunities Comprehensive Benefits Package Based on Employment Status Position Overview This role is ideal for a strong nursing leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, improving patient outcomes, and creating a positive culture within acute care nursing.
