//hr.howard.edu/benefits-wellness The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the following: Assumes responsibility and accountability for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Student Health Center. Including clinic scheduling, daily monitoring, and flow management of patients Manages staff, clinical orientations, education, competencies, quality improvement, staff meetings, and communication, as well as annual performance evaluations. Establishes, role-models, and upholds the standards of practice and expectations for the staff, monitoring performance, behaviors, and competency, and conducts performance reviews. Set objectives and goals for skill development of the clinical team. Provide clinical oversight to clinical support staff. Oversees clinical inventory ordering and monitoring. May be required to provide case management for a specialized group of patients. Consistently evaluates current clinical and operational processes and procedures and identifies and implements areas of improvement. Oversees time and attendance for clinic staff. Provision of clinical nursing care for patients when staffing requires nursing support. Monitor patient and clinic flow and help to facilitate expedited service when required Serves as the point of contact and communicates professionally with management, providers, patients, staff, external vendors, and campus partners. Ensures and monitors staff participation in patient triage as part of the delivery care model to optimize the patient experience and outcomes. Actively leads and encourages staff participation in continuous improvement efforts, DMAICs, and shared governance. Operationalize the strategic plan for their department. Assists the staff in establishing and maintaining positive, constructive communication in a collaborative model between all clinic areas. Identifies and monitors resources necessary for safe delivery of patient care, including labor, equipment, and facilities in the department. Recruitment and hiring of operational and clinical support staff.
Skills Required:
Demonstrates strong leadership skills and effective communication, both oral and written. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with providers, patients, parents, staff, and external vendors. Expert knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and skills, as well as performance improvement principles. Demonstrates the ability to function independently. Demonstrates experience in using good judgment in working with diverse populations. • Demonstrates the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities. Strategic vision and agility- the ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills Ability to multitask constantly, react to changes quickly/productively, and tolerate interruptions. High Level of Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word applications Ability to remain flexible, organized, professional, and able to analyze and make sound decisions independently under stressful or crisis situations. Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required, Master's Degree preferred, 3-5 years of RN experience in an outpatient primary care setting 1-3 years of supervisory experience Current District of Columbia nursing license Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate through the American Heart Association Certification in leadership within 1 year of eligibility Preferred Experience At least 5 years of RN experience in an outpatient setting Previous clinical leadership role Familiar with PDSA and DMAIC improvement planning AAANC board certification
