Job Description
About the Job General Summary of Position The incumbent in this position participates and performs those responsibilities and duties necessary to ensure effective and efficient patient flow through the department in order to maximize patient flow and productivity. Provides constant feedback pertaining to patient flow and scheduling. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates all functions and activities related to the daily clinical operation of the department by ensuring efficient patient flow and scheduling by maximizing the efficiency of patient flow including pre-procedure phone interviews and schedule confirmation calls performing timely interview and screening of patients and documenting appropriately per hospital policy supervise clinical nursing staff in the provision of direct patient care by incorporating the nursing process (assessment planning implementation and evaluation) prior to during and after the procedure. Administers medications and conscious sedation during invasive and non-invasive procedures and delivers appropriate interventions during emergency situations. The incumbent shall also be responsible for the supervision of the clinical nursing staff in their administration of medication and conscious sedation reporting to the nurse manager any areas for improvement. Provides in-services to clinical staff both in the unit and hospital-wide. Maintains standards to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Monitors compliance for safety and quality assurance in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's policies procedures and standards. Participates in monitoring and controlling assigned operational and capital budgets within administrative/departmental guidelines Develops policies and guidelines pertaining to the clinical operation of the unit ensuring staff compliance with local state and federal nursing regulations and licensing requirements and supporting the development of an outreach program to promote the services of the unit. Develops and maintains an orientation program to include ongoing training and in-service education of personnel and students assigned to the unit and provides constant feedback to the supervisor on areas where clinical education and service can be enhanced. Performs personnel management functions for the designated area including but not limited to: interviewing hiring scheduling coaching counseling evaluating and terminating employees. Monitors stock levels (or delegate these responsibilities) for all required supplies and will perform ordering as necessary. Exemplifies Guest and Staff relations and holds staff accountable for conformity with the standards in all activities. Minimal Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing required Experience 3-4 years Hematology/ Oncology experience and/or pediatric experience required 3-4 years Ambulatory experience preferred Supervisory experience required. Licenses and Certifications RN
- Registered Nurse
- State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required CPR
- Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider course
- Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nursing within 90 Days required Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of management and nursing organizational theory to supervise the operation of the nursing staff.
