Position Summary:
Responsible for the delivery of quality nursing care for all patients on the in-patient units. Oversees all unit activities including but not limited to admissions, discharges, crisis intervention, seclusion and.or restraints, Baker Act. Oversees schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper break/meal time. Accountable for the implementation of a collaborative care plan as proscribed by the physician(s) and treatment team. Provide leadership in maintaining standards for professional Nursing practice in the clinical setting. Provide medical management and assessment of patients. Ensure environmental safety. Work with the treatment team to provide a consistently therapeutic milieu. Oversee Mental Health Techs,; Administers medication and provides medication for the nursing staff when the Pharmacy is closed. Coordinates all medical codes and ensures they are carried out appropriately and safely. Supervise and or complete nursing assessment of all admissions including risk assessments (SAO, elopement, assault, suicide); educational needs, and medication review. Complete all required nursing documents within established time frame. Supervise nursing and educates when applicable to identify patient need, problem, capability or, limitation supported by the recorded assessment data with emphasis on biophysical and psychosocial needs. Actively participate in treatment team decisions, collect & include data in care plan updates, assess patient needs, design and implement programs, and document / evaluate patient responses. Ensure proper documentation of nursing care and treatment progression through timely & accurate chart entries & nursing care plan updates. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care and the milieu. Ensure that medication & treatment are administered as prescribed and that documentation reflects the care provided. Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to RN and MHT staff ; Model age, growth, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic communication in all interactions. Oversee and conduct rounds. Provide and direct milieu management. Actively assist therapists, keeping safety foremost. Assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations. Recognize escalation and take preventive steps to reduce incidence of restraint and seclusion. Supervise RN staff to document interventions in the Master Treatment Plan and undere progress notes. Oversee, provide and document patient and family education. Initiate and account for Special Treatment Procedures. Follow through with all facility & statutory requirements. Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, & Human Resources policies & procedures. Actively support the mission, philosophy, & goals for the hospital & treatment team(s). Communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, & cultural issues. Assure the patient's rights are protected, and act to prevent, identify, and report abuse. Adhere to facility philosophy, Code of Ethics, Standards of Conduct, Performance Improvement, and corresponding Policies and Procedures. Maintain general employee expectations. Duties Supervise and coordinate nursing staff across various departments, including acute care, long-term care, behavioral health, and specialized units such as ICU, PICU, or dialysis centers. Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and medical documentation to ensure accurate and timely records in EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems. Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols to safeguard patient privacy and safety. Facilitate staff training on clinical procedures such as IV infusion, catheterization, ventilator management, sterile technique, and airway management. Lead quality assurance initiatives including utilization review, discharge planning, case management, and compliance with NCQA standards. Manage staffing schedules, supervise nurse management activities, and evaluate performance to maintain optimal team productivity. Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on diagnostic evaluation, medication administration, pain management, and complex patient care plans. Promote a culture of continuous improvement by implementing evidence-based practices related to geriatrics, dementia care, behavioral health, or specialty areas like neonatal or pediatric care. Qualifications 5 years RN experience with 2 years in behavioral health preferred. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Florida.
