Job Description
This well-regarded hospital in southwestern Kansas is seeking a Critical Care Nurse Manager for an opportunity to lead a close-knit, highly capable ICU team. This role is ideal for a hands-on RN leader who enjoys staying connected to the bedside while guiding a strong, collaborative group.
The Critical Care Nurse Manager will join a respected community-focused hospital known for its commitment to quality care across the lifespan, from pediatrics through geriatrics. This facility operates as a Community Medical Center, offering a broad range of services and maintaining a reputation for steady, patient-centered outcomes. The Critical Care Nurse Manager will be part of an organization that values teamwork, adaptability, and consistent clinical excellence without losing that personal touch patients appreciate.
The Critical Care Nurse Manager reports directly to the Director of Nursing and oversees a dedicated ICU team including an RN Charge Coordinator, Registered Nurses, LPNs, and CNAs. The Critical Care Nurse Manager will work closely with physicians, including 24/7 intensivist coverage, as well as interdisciplinary departments to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care delivery. This role plays a key part in bridging leadership and frontline staff, maintaining visibility and approachability throughout the unit.
The Critical Care Nurse Manager leads an eight-bed ICU that supports a diverse patient population, including cases such as sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac conditions, renal failure, and overdose. The unit also manages advanced lines, ventilated patients, and occasional telemetry overflow, creating a dynamic and clinically engaging environment. With approximately 28 FTEs, the Critical Care Nurse Manager will foster a culture that feels more like a family than a workplace, where self-scheduling, skill development, and strong peer support are part of the everyday rhythm.
The Critical Care Nurse Manager is responsible for both clinical leadership and operational oversight, ensuring evidence-based practices are upheld while mentoring and developing nursing staff. This includes supporting clinical competencies, guiding education initiatives, and stepping in as a resource for complex patient care situations when needed. On the administrative side, the Critical Care Nurse Manager manages staffing, budgeting, and daily operations, while also strengthening physician relationships and maintaining staff engagement across the department.
The Critical Care Nurse Manager will enjoy life in southwestern Kansas, where a slower pace of living meets a strong sense of community and connection. This region offers open spaces, local events, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in and feel at home. The Critical Care Nurse Manager will find this area especially appealing for those looking to make a meaningful impact while enjoying a more balanced lifestyle away from the hustle of major metro areas.
The Critical Care Nurse Manager position offers Generous Benefits and Competitive Compensation, along with potential sign-on and relocation support for qualified candidates. More importantly, the Critical Care Nurse Manager will have the opportunity to make a visible and lasting impact on both patient outcomes and team culture, shaping the future of critical care within this tight-knit hospital setting.
