Job Description

The University of Pikeville seeks a dynamic, student-centered, and clinically experienced Chief Nurse Practitioner (CNP) to lead the Center for Health and Wellness in delivering high-quality, accessible, and holistic care to our campus community. The Chief Nurse Practitioner serves as the senior clinical leader for campus health services, providing direct patient care while overseeing clinical operations, advancing wellness initiatives, and ensuring alignment with the University's mission to support student and employee success, retention, and overall well-being. This position blends clinical excellence, leadership, and innovation, playing a critical role in shaping a modern, integrated campus health model.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Care Required to perform patient care, histories, exams, and prescribe treatment within FNP scope of practice Provide comprehensive primary care services to students, faculty and staff including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up Manage acute and chronic conditions, preventative care, and health education Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with Kentucky regulations Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records Leadership & Operations Serve as the clinical leader of the UPIKE Center for Health and Wellness Help launch the Appalachian Center for Preventive Medicine in Floyd County Oversee daily operations, clinical protocols, and standards of care Supervise and mentor nursing staff and other clinical personnel Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation requirements Student Wellness & Campus Collaboration Partner with Student Affairs, Athletic, and Academic Affairs to support student well-being Partner with the THRIVE Center to create campus-wide health initiatives (e.g., mental health awareness, preventative screenings, immunization programs) Serve as a trusted health resource for students, faculty, and staff Strategic & Program Development Develop and implement innovative health and wellness programs aligned with institutional priorities Contribute to long-term planning for campus health services, including potential expansion (e.g., integrated clinics, telehealth, community partnerships) Utilize data to assess outcomes, improve services, and inform decision-making Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations Maintain high standards of clinical quality, safety, and patient satisfaction Lead quality improvement initiatives and risk management efforts
Qualifications:
Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (FNP or DNP) Current unencumbered licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (or eligibility) National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner Minimum of 5-7 years of clinical experience, preferably in primary care, family practice, or college health with demonstrated leadership roles of a minimum of 1-2 years Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Clinical expertise, strong communication, leadership ability, and proficiency with EHR systems
Preferred:
Experience in a college or university health setting Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience Interest or experience in population health, wellness programming, or preventative care Familiarity with electronic health record systems Student-centered mindset with a passion for supporting diverse populations Ability to lead with both clinical credibility and relational warmth Strategic thinker with a willingness to innovate Collaborative approach to working across campus departments High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
