A qualified candidate will have a demonstrated passion for community birth, birth center and/or labor and delivery work experience, as well as a current Minnesota RN license.
Responsibilities:
Maintains clinic nurse, birth assistant, and clinic assistant staffing by planning, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new employees, using an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach. Coordinates the orientation of new hires. Responsible for coordinating and posting nurse and clinic assistant schedules. Pro-actively seeks to improve efficiencies of nurse staffing model to promote a more cost-effective system by tracking payroll statistics and championing process improvement. Directs and oversees administrative projects of the clinic nurse and clinic assistant team, including monthly CQI tasks and PDR completion. Supervises clinic nurse, birth assistant, and clinic assistant job performance and maintains job results by coaching and counseling. Utilizes direct observation in addition to gathering feedback from CNM team and other staff members as appropriate. In addition to quarterly meetings with salaried staff, completes annual performance evaluations for all direct reports based on role expectations. Responsible for facilitating communication around policy changes and reminders, facility and operations updates, procedure improvements, and other information among the nursing team members as well as between the nursing and other teams. This will be accomplished through written communication, including monthly SOAP notes newsletters, and in-person communication, including one-on-one and group meetings. Leads birth assistant, clinic nurse, and clinic assistant meetings. Provides nursing updates at All Staff meetings as needed. Attends CNM staff meetings and facilitates bidirectional communication between CNM and clinic nurse/birth assistant staff. Supports and monitors continuing education and ongoing skills and competency of the clinical staff by facilitating opportunities for skills practice (e.g. clinical drills, IV workshops, charting seminars), developing clinical resources for education, and assisting staff in finding opportunities for specific development based on individual needs and desires. Manages nurse PTO and payroll on a biweekly basis; monitors hours worked by individual staff and the nursing team as a whole. Sits on Leadership Team to work with other clinical and administrative leaders in a multidisciplinary approach to addressing patient needs and problem-solving team-specific and company-wide issues. Works as needed with other staff on reviewing, updating, and improving organizational P&Ps. Participates in Minnesota Birth Center outreach and events. Other special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Licenses and certifications: Licensed to practice nursing in Minnesota RN (renewed as required by MN board of nursing) NRP certification (renewed every two years or more often) BLS certification (renewed every two years)
Qualities:
Committed to the philosophy of out-of-hospital birth. Demonstrates leadership experience and skills. Experience in antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum nursing to be competent and confident to practice independently in birth-center setting alongside a midwife and to train other staff in birth assistant and clinic nurse roles. Demonstrates competence in interpersonal communication, clinical nursing skills, and cooperative teamwork. Displays flexibility in adapting to the ever-changing healthcare environment. Takes initiative in getting a variety of clinical and administrative work done efficiently and making improvements to existing workflows. Aligned with MBC's mission, goals, and values.
Continuing Competency:
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies.
FTE Range:
0.8-1.0
Schedule:
The nurse manager will be scheduled for 1 unit for each 0.1 FTE in a two-week pay period (e.g. 8 units for 0.8 FTE). Clinic and admin shifts are equal to 1 unit. 12 hours of call is equal to 1 unit. The units will be a mix of clinic, admin, and call shifts.
Pay:
$80,000 for 1.0 FTE (prorated for 0.8 or 0.9 FTE)
