Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Performs and/or coordinates the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care to provide quality nursing care in compliance with the philosophy, objectives, and standards of the Department of Nursing, and consistent with hospital policy and the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act.SUPERVISED BY
Director ofICU SUPERVISES
Accountable for directing and supervising patient care and nursing tasks performed by the Nurse Aide I, Unit Secretary, License Practical Nurse, Hospital Volunteer, peers and other support personnel. Directs and supervises staff nurses when assuming role of charge nurse.QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Degree(s): Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN in Nursing required. License(s): Current licensure as an RN in North Carolina. Training/Certification(s): Current BCLS certification required. Specialty certification preferred. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English required, additional languages preferred.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Knowledge and application of professional nursing theory, practices and procedures 2. Knowledge of patient assessments which requires recognition of changes in patient conditions and understanding varied data which could complicate or jeopardize successful recovery. 3. Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients, and their families 4. Ability to recognize changes, symptoms, or other problems related to a patient's condition and determine appropriate intervention. 5. Ability to counsel patients and families 6. Ability to explain surgical or other treatment procedures, medications, personal care, and other health related needs. 7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other health care personnel, visitors and the public.EXPERIENCE
