Days; 80 hours per pay period Position Summary The Charge Registered Nurse (Med Surg) provides direct patient care while leading daily unit operations on a medical-surgical unit in an acute care setting. This role blends clinical excellence with team leadership to ensure safe, efficient care delivery, strong patient outcomes, and a culture of respect, safety, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise nursing staff to ensure high standards of patient care and adherence to policies and procedures. Coordinate daily operations including patient assignments, patient throughput, and staff scheduling. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor; support assessment, care planning, and complex clinical decision-making. Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex patient needs and optimize care delivery. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, infection prevention practices, and unit quality metrics. Conduct or support performance feedback, coaching, and staff development plans. Participate in recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention initiatives for nursing staff. Monitor patient outcomes and drive quality improvement using data, audits, and evidence-based practice. Manage resource allocation to ensure appropriate staffing, supplies, and equipment availability. Address and resolve clinical and operational issues; escalate concerns appropriately. Lead unit huddles/meetings and promote effective communication with staff, patients, and families. Support budget awareness and operational efficiency while maintaining high-quality care. Required Qualifications Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire or compact eligibility (as applicable). Minimum 1-2 years of recent acute care medical-surgical RN experience; prior charge/lead experience preferred. Current BLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent); ACLS preferred per facility policy. Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and delegation skills with the ability to respond to rapid changes in patient condition. Demonstrated leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and team-building abilities. Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation standards. Ability to meet physical demands of bedside nursing (standing/walking, lifting/assisting patients, and performing clinical procedures). Successful completion of background check, drug screening, and required health/immunization standards.
