Job Description
LECOM Millcreek Community Hospital, an equal opportunity employer, is currently searching for an ICU RN Unit leader.
SUMMARY:
The incumbent organizes, develops, directs and supervises all aspects of nursing care for the Intensive Care Unit in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, regulations and guidelines to assure that the highest degree of quality care is rendered at all times. The incumbent participates in planning, policy development, and priority setting for the units. The incumbent directs and supervises professional nursing and ancillary personnel rendering patient care services on the specific units. The incumbent serves as a member of the health care team providing direct patient care as needed.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Align all work and resource management with the facility's mission, vision, philosophies and values, goals and strategic plans.
- Coordinate all aspects of nursing service to provide patient centered care on specified units. Maintain the standards of nursing practice within the units and otherwise ensure sound nursing practice.
- Responsible for staffing and scheduling to provide adequate coverage to ensure safe, effective, quality patient care. Direct or conduct recruitment, hiring, and training of personnel. Appraise performance; reward and discipline employees.
- Accompany physician on rounds as requested. Observe nursing care and visit patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and treatment administered in accordance with physician's instructions.
- Direct preparation and maintenance of patient's clinical records including interdisciplinary treatment plans.
- Coordinate nursing care with intensive care services and other patient care services. Maintain active nursing care program to carry out those procedures which are consistent with the qualifications of the nursing staff including proper body alignment, proper positioning in bed, encouraging activity out of bed, assistance with meals, and fostering independence with activities of daily living.
- Resolve patient, staff and physician complaints and incident reports.
- Initiate and conduct monthly unit meetings. Identify and provide educational opportunities for staff.
- Responsible for conducting and administering fiscal operations, planning budgets, authoring expenditures, and coordinating financial reporting for all areas under the incumbent's control.
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time. Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members. Maintain effective management skills and communication skills for interdepartmental relationships.
- Monitor the use of resources and staff to ensure efficiency and assess the need for additional staff, equipment, and services.
- Support cultural diversity by ensuring that the delivery of quality and culturally competent patient-centered care is provided; promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
- Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
- Monitors Quality Assessment activities on units.
- All other duties as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills; multitasking; time management; and leadership abilities. Maintain a patient-oriented focus and demonstrate good planning skills. Respond to patient and family needs promptly and compassionately and be able to perform excellent work under stressful circumstances in an environment containing communicable diseases, blood, confused and/or combative patients, hazardous chemicals, needles, sharp instruments and X-rays. Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft products.Education:
R.N. and current licensure. Additional education and training in geriatric nursing and intensive care nursing preferred.Job Type:
