SUMMARY OF OCCUPATION
The Nurse Manager provides, oversees and ensures normalized, therapeutic and preventative nursing and health/psychiatric care to individuals in the Community Living Arrangement (CLA) 6400 and the Life Sharing (6500) programs at Brian's House Inc. The position requires that the nurse embody nursing leadership, direct care and executive roles as well as assesses and oversee the need for nursing interventions and the development of health management needs for the individuals served. The Nurse Manager will work with the nursing staff, the Brian's House Inc. interdisciplinary team and community providers to ensure that the optimum quality of care is delivered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the health/psychiatric care management of individuals includes the assurance of corporate compliance with the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing Professional Nurse Act, Pennsylvania Office of Developmental Program 6400 and 6500 regulations, Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, American Disabilities Act (ADA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health Insurance and Portability Act (HIPPA), applicable county health departments and Brian's House Incorporated policies and procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to areas of: human resources, ensuring individual health/psychiatric standard of care, finances, vendor contracts and relationships as well as aligning nursing's interests and resources with organizational goals and regulatory requirements and administrative duties. Accountable for hiring, directing, supervising, evaluating, terminating, counseling, and staff development of a team of Medical Administrative Assistants and Program Nurses
Responsible for direction, supervision and evaluation of individual care performed by nursing personnel
Counsel and evaluate all nursing personnel for optimum performance
Implementation of disciplinary policy for assigned employees with Human Resources
Practice by mentoring, encouraging, supporting, coaching and by engaging teamwork, collaboration and communication with all nursing staff
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation Training
Devise training material and train individuals, direct care and professional staff
Ensure and oversee all professional staff required nursing training requirements
Schedule and lead routine nursing and department meetings
Oversee scheduling of nursing to include coverage at all times, including holidays and on call coverage
Attend or ensure nursing attendance at pertinent health appointments, evaluations and ISPs (upon request)
Promoting and scheduling the professional development of all team members
Payroll, review and approval of recorded hours worked for all assigned employees Maintaining health/psychiatric standards of care
Oversee and ensure that the nursing team upholds the highest level of standard of care
Ensure quality and safety improvement measures
Ensure that care delivered is individually focused
Advocate for individuals and constantly work to provide improved care and anticipate the health care needs of individuals served.
Understand and ensure individual and family centered care, while upholding regulatory as well as federal/local government requirements and Brian's House Inc. policies and procedures
Acting point of contact between individuals, families, providers, and the health care team in addressing and preventing concerns
Proficient knowledge of professional and regulatory guidelines that govern patient care
Ensure that all team members are educated on such standards of care, regulations, policies and procedures.
Continual assessment of compliance of such standards and expectations
Hospital and Nursing Home Liaison
Promote and restore individual's health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of care
Direct and develop nursing staff by offering advice, responding to health/clinical related questions and problem solving on an individual as well as in organizational situations
Directing plans for data collected and reporting by team including but not limited to LPN staff
Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists and other clinical/health providers to coordinate care and services for the individuals served
Continuous communication and collaboration with health care providers and all Brian's House, Inc. team members
Monitor quality of delivery of care, utilization standards and assume specific responsibility for individual care. Ensure coordinated plans of treatment, individual focused care and cost-effective services.
On call to Program Nurses as designated
Review all potential and pending admission records to include proposed plan of care and ensure implementation with assigned Program Nurse.
Oversee and ensure Program Nurse duties and responsibilities are met such as but not limited to: Individual Health, Medication Administration, Communication, Record, Documentation, Tasks, Training, Supervising and Continuing Education. Financial
Review, address and approve all vendor contracts and invoices such as but not limited to: pharmacy, durable medical equipment suppliers, dietitian, medical statements (services or supplies not covered by insurance), consulting nursing agencies (home health, hospice, outpatient services)
Knowledge of insurance coverage Managing Vendor Contracts
Procure and maintain all vendor contracts
Interface and maintain working relationships with all vendors
Facilitate in problem solving with all aspects of vendor relationships
Ensure licensing and insurance requirements are met
Manage medical budget including, but not limited to pharmacy, insurance, suppliers, service providers and all applicable vendors. Aligning nursing with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
Promote a multidisciplinary coordination of services, nursing, medical, psychiatric, laboratory, pharmaceutical, and medication administration.
Ensure and oversee individual health/psychiatric safety programs and risk management
Track, trend and report clinical quality to identify risk through Quality Assurance Monitoring and Risk Management to lead clinical team in quality and process improvement initiatives to mitigate risk and improve individual care outcomes.

Attend Administrative Meetings, Risk Management Meetings, Clients Rights Committee
Employee health consultant with Human Resources when involves individual health
Writing policies and procedures to achieve quality improvement goals and sustain standard of health/psychiatric care
Devise and establish departmental and organizational policies and procedures based upon evidenced based practice in health care, federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
Maintain nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
Enforce adherence to state board of nursing (RN/LPN) Pennsylvania nurse scope of practice and practice requirements
Perform other responsibilities or designated special projects as directed by the Executive Officer or Director of Health Services.

Participates in continuing education relevant to the area of nursing. Obtain a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training annually.
Attain 30 continuing education hours every 2 years to maintain RN license.
Knowledge and Qualifications:
Knowledge of insurance preferred
Possess proficient knowledge with all federal, state and local regulations such as but not limited to: Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, Office of Developmental Programs 6400 and 6500 regulations, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, CDC, applicable Health Departments (local), OSHA, and American Disabilities Act preferred.
Current licensure as an R.N. in Pennsylvania, BSN or matriculated in BSN program required.
Current and valid driver's license
Current CPR certification
Computer literacy-proficiency with Microsoft office, excel and outlook
Strong communication skills including written and verbal English proficiency
Experience:
At least three years of nursing experience as a Registered Nurse required
Minimum of 1 year supervising LPNs and or RNs preferred.
At least 1 year of experience working in the field of ID/DD preferred.
