This leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse seeking to take the next step into frontline nursing leadership while remaining actively involved in patient care. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator serves as both a clinical leader and operational resource, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting nursing staff, patient flow, and departmental operations during the designated shift. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator will work closely with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to oversee daily Labor & Delivery operations, support staff development, improve patient outcomes, and ensure compliance with established clinical standards. This individual will function as a charge nurse and assistant manager, serving as the primary leadership resource during overnight hours while fostering a collaborative, patient-focused environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong Labor & Delivery clinical expertise, previous leadership experience within women's services, and the ability to effectively manage staffing, patient care needs, and operational priorities in a fast-paced hospital environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow leadership skills while making a direct impact on maternal and newborn care.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and oversee daily Labor & Delivery operations during the designated shift to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery Serve as a clinical resource and frontline leader for nursing staff, providing guidance, support, coaching, and problem resolution as needed Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and throughput initiatives to promote operational efficiency and positive patient outcomes Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with nursing leadership to enhance clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction Support a patient-first culture by promoting service excellence, addressing concerns, and participating in service recovery efforts when appropriate Assist with staff scheduling, staffing adjustments, productivity management, and labor optimization based on patient census and acuity Provide recommendations regarding recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, performance management, and staff development initiatives Support inventory management, supply utilization, equipment readiness, and compliance with departmental operational standards Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to promote teamwork and coordinated patient care Serve as a clinical resource capable of assisting with labor management, deliveries, and surgical procedures as needed
Qualifications:
Degree Associate Degree in Nursing required Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred License(s) or Certification(s) Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment start date Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within one year of employment start date Job Experience and/or Industry Experience Minimum of 2 years of Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse experience required Previous leadership experience within Women's Services, Labor & Delivery, NICU, Mother-Baby, or related women's health settings required Acute care hospital experience required Experience functioning as Charge Nurse, Clinical Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager, Team Lead, or equivalent leadership role preferred Must be comfortable serving as the primary clinical and operational resource during overnight shifts Software Skills Experience utilizing Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR), workforce management systems, scheduling platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred Other Skills Strong clinical judgment, leadership, communication, conflict resolution, staffing management, and patient advocacy skills Ability to effectively prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced Labor & Delivery environment Must be capable of assisting with labor management, vaginal deliveries, emergency situations, and scrubbing into surgical procedures as needed Strong commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, employee engagement, and exceptional patient experiences
Candidate Profile Highlights:
Labor & Delivery RN with prior leadership experience in Women's Services, L&D, NICU, Mother-Baby, or related areas Comfortable serving as Charge Nurse and operational leader during overnight shifts Strong experience managing staffing, patient throughput, and high-acuity maternal care situations Demonstrated ability to lead teams, support staff development, and drive positive patient outcomes Hands-on clinical leader who remains actively involved in patient care, deliveries, and surgical procedures as needed Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced hospital environment Candidates with progression from bedside nursing into charge nurse, lead nurse, or assistant manager roles are highly desirable #IND123
