Emergency Department North Country Hospital Newport, VT Full-time • Day shift w/weekend rotation Req # 4639

Position Statement The Charge Nurse oversees the daily operations of the emergency department, ensuring that high-quality care is delivered efficiently and effectively. The Charge Nurse works collaboratively with the house supervisor and other departments for optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Leads daily huddles to improve communication. Triages patients upon arrival. Coordinates patient flow and manages bed assignments to maximize efficiency and reduce wait times. Works collaboratively with nursing units and staff, physicians, and other departments to ensure patient needs are met prior to admission or discharge. Addresses patient/family complaints. If further support is needed, will reach out to nurse leader or house supervisor. Participates in emergency drills and training sessions. Reports performance issues to nurse leader as needed. Maintains frequent communication with nurse leader and house supervisor. Reviews restraint documentation before end of shift. Resolves any narcotic discrepancies before leaving their shift. Resource for all staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Vermont or Compact State. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC). Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in an emergency room or critical care setting. Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong clinical skills and ability to perform under pressure. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems. All nurses at NCH must adhere to the NADM-Education Nursing Staff policy.
