The Staff Development Coordinator (SDC) & Infection Preventionist is responsible for organizing, planning, assessing, developing and directing staff development and infection control programs. The SDC supports the Director of Nursing and care team in the delivery of high quality safe resident care in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations for skilled nursing and assisted living environments.
Pay Scale:
$100,000
- $115,000/yearly New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the midpoint.
Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's LPN or RN licensure, job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process. Mon-Fri, 8-5 p.m. Job may require extra hours. Will be in a every 4-week on-call rotation.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provides resident-directed services that honor individual lifestyles and preferences. Ensures confidentiality of all resident care information. Participates as part of the clinical leadership on-call rotation, carrying cell phone and assisting in covering shifts on the floor if a scheduled staff member is not able to report to duty and a replacement cannot be identified. Maintains a reference library with necessary resources for compliance with current standards and regulations that will provide assistance in maintaining quality resident care and growth and development of staff. Coordinates with licensed nurses, outside consultants and medical providers. Serves as primary liaison for these providers. Supports in other necessary departments' needs with focus on nursing. Supports the Director of Nursing Services as needed.
Staff Development:
Provides leadership in formulating Penrose Harbor training and education goals and objectives in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations for skilled nursing and assisted living. Develops and presents interactive staff training programs on centralized or decentralized basis as needed. Provides one-on-one remedial training to address inadequate individual job skills/ knowledge. Uses various training techniques to optimize staff learning; included may be lecture format, printed materials, hands-on demonstrations, role-playing, group sessions, one-on-one training, unit-based instruction, etc. Makes provisions for staff training and education on all 3 shifts and weekends as necessary. Develops and publishes monthly training program calendar / schedule. Maintains records regarding staff attendance at in-service training sessions. Maintains records regarding staff qualifications and certificates. Participates in general orientation program for new employees providing specialized training in infection control / blood borne pathogens, Hepatitis B vaccinations and other required clinical information. Provides direct supervision to departmental personnel offering training, guidance, coaching and counseling as needed to correct and improve performance and holding them accountable for care-giving practices, record-keeping, dress code standards, attendance, policy compliance, etc. Oversees new hire onboarding process to include but not limited to initial competency, Tuberculosis testing, vaccine tracking, monthly touchpoints, and fit testing. Oversees yearly staff competency, tuberculosis testing, vaccine tracking, and fit testing Maintains current clinical knowledge and knowledge of nursing home and assisted living licensure
Infection Control:
Partners with Penrose Harbor care team to implement and evaluate annual infection prevention goals and action plans. Accountable for surveillance of healthcare acquired and community acquired infections in Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living. Manages goal setting and process improvement Penrose Harbor related to healthcare acquired infections and conditions. Reports infection control surveillance data and trending to QAPI. Provides education and monitoring of infection control processes/Audits. Serves as infection control resource for departments and personnel. Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures. Reports communicable diseases to the state as required by law. Provides educational offerings for orientation and on-going in-services. Initiates follow-up on staff/resident exposures to communicable diseases. Functions as a clinical lead in the facility in the implementation and support of the Antibiotic Stewardship program. CDC Infection preventionist training or obtain within 90 days of hire.
Quality Assurance:
Directs Quality Assurance activities (QAPI) in SNF and AL in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations. Designs and implements systems, process, staff education in response to identified QAPI trends to achieve continuous quality improvement of service deliver in Penrose Harbor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Active unencumbered Washington RN/LPN nursing license. Three years' experience as a licensed nurse in long term care. Specialty training on modified fundamentals of care giving mental health and dementia training. Current
AED, CPR
training required. Experience in staff development and infection control required. Previous experience in a supervisory position highly desirable. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations for Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living. Strong organizational skills. Evidence of basic leadership and management skills. Patience, poise and dignity in an emergency or crisis situation. Able to maintain confidentiality. Able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people. Maintain flexibility with work schedule to address unpredictable needs. Regular, dependable and reliable attendance. Participate in Nurse Manager on-call rotation. Ability to work as floor nurse.
