Job Description
Job Overview The Nutrition Aide provides assistance to the Nutrition Manager by ensuring that the overall operation of the congregate dining site and the duties required have been performed. Home Delivered Meals are completed according to DOEA standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Helps maintain daily attendance records for Senior Center by obtaining signatures, dates of attendance and activities on the sign-in sheet daily. Prepares Senior Center for daily activities prior to arrival of Members.These activities include:
preparing refreshments, organizing activities, and serving midday meals. Assists with daily activities such as Bingo, word games, art projects, etc. Discusses Health and Education handouts. Performs extensive congregate site duties. Keeps an inventory of paper goods and properly stores them in storage room. Assists in the scheduling of volunteers for Home Delivered Meals. Makes sure Nutrition Manager knows about changes. Assist with the Home Delivered Meal delivery by ensuring that all eligible Members receive their appropriate meals on the day/time/frequency mandated by their care plan. Assist the Congregate Meal Program by ensuring that all meals served to Members attending Senior Center meet the nutritional standards set by the state and federal guidelines. Maintains accurate inventory of meals served to Members in both the Congregate and Home Delivered Meals programs weekly. Report all concerns with Senior Center safety, Member health challenges and any other unsafe situations that are observed to the Nutrition Manager for resolution. Maintain accurate inventory of shelf stable meals. Completes temperature log for C-1 site meals and turns it into the Nutrition Manager on the last day of the month. Makes sure dining room is clean. Makes coffee and has snacks ready for Members. Keeps coffee made for clients throughout the morning. Check temps on meals prior to serving and prepares bread, butter, milk and dessert. Also prepares forks, knives, spoons, straws and napkins. Have everything ready by 11:15 a.m. At 11:15 a.m. serves lunch. Helps keep the serving line, floor in front of serving line and dining room clean during the day. Attends meetings, workshops and other training for food service.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Nutrition role is that of "gatekeeper" in the community care system. Therefore, the Aide must be knowledgeable about the array of community-based services and resources available to address the needs of clients and their caregivers. Must have knowledge of obstacles facing the aging and vulnerable population. Excellent verbal communication skills. Professionalism Considerable organizational skills. Microsoft office skills (word, excel, power point, etc.). Very personable.SUPERVISION
Performs duties under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager.WORK EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
2 years' experience in food handling experience preferred. Experience working with the elderly or other vulnerable population in a customer focused environment. Must be able to pass the Level 2 background check required by DOEA. Must adhere to Drug Free Workplace standards. Must be a team player with positive attitude. Must have a valid driver's license.EDUCATION
High School diploma or equivalent.PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS
Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis. Able to lift 20 pounds. Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.NOTE:
