Job Description

Position Summary:
The Diet Technician (Diet Tech) is responsible for assisting and supporting patients through the entire treatment experience from admission through discharge. Diet Techs support the full dietary aspects of the treatment program. Diet Tech responsibilities primarily include offering dietary support, maintaining a clean and supplied kitchen, cooking for patients, ensuring patient safety, and providing support in the milieu.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Assists with admissions process and supports new patients in the program.
  • Provides milieu management throughout the treatment experience and communicates with all team members.
  • Assists in grocery shopping for the program and ensures the kitchen is thoroughly stocked with a variety of foods.
  • Complies with proper sanitation requirements in compliance with Department of Health, state regulations, and Joint Commission Accreditation standards.
  • Prepares meals on shift, as assigned.
  • Monitors patient consumption.
  • Ensures implementation of accurate portions and servings.
  • Facilitates kitchen exposure with patients as directed by the dietitian.
  • Participates in all dietary activities, when requested by the dietitian.
  • May support patients with their food choices.
  • Conducts patient calorie counts weekly, when requested by the dietitian.
  • Rotates emergency food supply twice a year, as assigned.
  • Completes all shift notes, group notes, and other required documentation by the end of shift.
  • Assists with discharge process.
  • Works during meal periods to provide supervision and support to patients.
Education, and Experience:
  • One year of education or experience in dietary or nutrition sciences
  • Obtain CPI certification within 90 days of hire
  • Obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Obtain state required food handler's permit.
  • Must possess a current Driver's License and be in good standing.
