Job Description

Diet Tech - Full Time Competitive Wages + Benefits including FREE Parking Position Summary The primary purpose of the Diet Tech role is to evaluate, plan and implement a nutritional care program for residents. By providing nutrition education to residents, their families and staff, ensuring that quality nutritional services are provided and maintained daily in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility. Primary Responsibilities Interviews patients for the purpose of gathering information consistent with their food preferences and nutritional status. Records information on appropriate forms. Visits assigned patients as requested to ascertain acceptance and tolerance of nutritional therapy. Assist patients in completion of their menu by advising them of appropriate selections based on nutrition prescriptions. Collects, calculates, and records nutrient intakes as necessary (calorie count.) Calculate diets and make appropriate changes on patients' menus as necessary. Distributes and retrieves selective menus and/or other nutrition and food service information. Updates nutrition Kardex based on current dietary order sheets and latest patient information. Informs the dietitian of changes in patient status and of patients' nutritional problems and diet changes. May perform daily clerical duties including receiving and transmitting business-related telephone calls, heading menus, preparing production sheets and updating patient menus in accordance with dietary order sheets and nutrition Kardex. May perform general clerical duties to include filing, copying, running errands, etc. May participate in and reinforce patient education. May participate in quality assurance monitoring. May be assigned to various positions within the kitchen area. Assures patient confidentiality. Qualifications Possess the skills and experience required to perform each of the primary responsibilities of the job description.
Educational Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent. Previous food service experience preferable in health care, although not required.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of Diet Tech experience in a long-term care or related setting.
Computer Skills:
Ability to utilize a management information system for the purposes of collecting and analyzing data, maintaining files, providing summary reports and communicating relevant information.
