GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for providing support to the Nutrition Services staff at an assigned location; assisting with preparing and/or serving food items to students and/or school personnel; and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition. Only Springfield Public School Students are eligible for this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist with preparation, arrangement, and service of food and beverage items, serving them to students and staff in an efficient manner. Washes tables when students leave the cafeteria for the purpose of ensuring the cleanliness of tables and surrounding areas. Assists with Student Nutrition Services functions when time allows for the purpose of supporting cafeteria operations and service delivery. Assist with stock ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements. Clean and maintain utensils, equipment, storage, food preparation, and serving areas maintaining required sanitary conditions. Attend unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops in order to gather information required to perform job functions. Report equipment malfunctions by notifying supervisor of need for repair and/or replacement. Performs other related duties, as assigned by the Student Nutrition Services Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience Enrolled as a current Springfield Public Schools student. At least 16 years of age or older. Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements Must obtain Food Handlers certification. Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required. Must pass a pre-employment physical, required. Must have a Hepatitis A vaccination. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Knowledge based competencies required to perform the functions of the job include products and materials used in a school setting. Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records. Ability to read technical information and compose a variety of documents. Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups. Ability to analyze issues and create action plans. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes. Ability to adhere to safety practices; meet deadlines and schedules; work under time constraints; and communicate with diverse groups. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment; and in confined spaces. The work is heavy work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
