UPMC Hamot is hiring a Nutrition Tech to join our team! This position is part-time, hours vary between 1st and 2nd shift. _Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience._

Purpose:

The Nutrition Tech is responsible for operating the call center where patients call down to place their meal orders, and/or taking meal orders at the bedside. Utilizing a computerized menu system, the Nutrition Tech guides the patient through the menu-ordering process, within the constraints of their therapeutic diet order and safety considerations.

Responsibilities:

a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } + Strictly ensures safety precautions and enters Special Service instructions into patient records (e.g., Safety Trays, Aspiration Precautions, Nissen considerations, Missed Meals). + Confidentially uses the electronic health record to verify diet orders, enteral feedings, and food allergies. + Assists with inpatient meal trayline or meal delivery as needed. + Performs duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors. + Performs other duties as assigned. + Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information based on age-specific needs. + Ensures accurate implementation of diet prescriptions. + Demonstrates exceptional customer service in all interactions. + Completes all clerical activities and processes orders appropriately. + Completes assigned patient-related activities. + Participates in meal tray and nourishment delivery. + Supports positive working relationships and participates in performance improvement activities. + Demonstrates commitment to service excellence by meeting the needs of patients, families, physicians, and coworkers with accuracy, timeliness, coordination, and thoroughness. + Operates the Computrition Hospitality Suite computerized menu program. + Guides inpatients with care and compassion through meal and snack ordering within prescribed therapeutic diet restrictions. + Coordinates and communicates diet-related care with patients, nursing, registered dietitians, trayline workers, tray passers, and cooks. + Handles diet office phone calls and communicates issues to appropriate departments. + Accurately inputs nutritional supplements per physician, RN, and RDN orders. + Accurately executes enteral tube feeding orders. + Communicates out-of-stock items to patients as needed. + Maintains and prints 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and HS snacks/nourishments. + Communicates TPN consults and other nutrition-related issues to registered dietitians. + Troubleshoots diet order and trayline conflicts. + Inputs and processes special diet considerations such as gastric bypass diets, calorie counts, and safety-related modifications. + Associate Degree in diet therapy or a related field preferred. + Or High school graduate or equivalent with two years of technical experience in a hospital setting or a related area preferred. + Verbal and written communication skills.
