Job Description

One California Job Summary and Responsibilities As an Occupational Therapist, you will help patients regain independence and quality of life so they can safely perform daily activities.

Every day you will assess diverse patients (orthopedic, neurological, sensory, cancer recovery, etc.), develop treatment plans, and conduct evaluations/re-evaluations. You will be expected to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, document thoroughly, and provide positive, motivating care to a high volume of patients.

Abuse Protection and Reporting:
Identifies and reports patient abuse and neglect i.e.: physical assault, domestic abuse and neglect of elders and children.
Measurement:
Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Annual Performance Evaluations:
Assists Therapy Manager/Supervisor in annual performance reviews of therapy assistants and aides and works to assist these team members in improving job performance. (NA - per diem)

Assessment:
Accurately identifies patient's functional deficits/dysfunction through interview, skilled observation and testing to evaluate the performance areas of activities of daily living, work and productive activities and play or leisure activities, as well as the performance components of sensorimotor skills, cognitive integration and psychosocial skills. Accurately interprets the physician's order.
Measurement:
Discussion, Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Bedside Swallow Assessment:
Accurately identifies signs and symptoms of dysphagia and the patient's functional deficits/dysfunction with swallowing through review of the medical record, observation of the patient, information obtained from the patient/family/staff, oral-pharyngeal and respiratory examination, trial feed assessments and other occupational therapy assessment techniques. Accurately interprets the physician order. Received Advanced Practice Certification in Swallowing from the California Board of Occupational Therapy or be working towards advanced practice certification following established guidelines for supervision and continuing education.

Discussion, Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Communication:
Communicates regularly with other members of the healthcare team regarding goals, progress and rehab potential. Works as a collaborative member of the treatment team. Attends any necessary and appropriate patient care meetings such as mini rounds, rehab weekly conference, NICU discharge meetings, etc.
