Job Description
SUMMARY
The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements an individual patient therapy care plan thathas been prepared by the Occupational Therapist and is supervised by the OccupationalTherapist.
Advises and consults with family to potential for achievement of optimum potential ofclient.
Observes and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reporting to thephysician the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in the client's condition.
Communicates effectively with all those providing care.
Guides and instructs the client in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activitiesthat are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning.
Instructs client in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic andorthotic devices.
Assists in teaching exercise programs to patient and family.
Communicate effectively in English (the primary language of the residents)Work well in a team or aloneOrganized and flexibleComputer proficientMust have at least 2 years' Occupational Therapy Assistant experience.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects,drug allergies, and contra-indicated medication and reports to supervisor.Advises and consults with family to potential for achievement of optimum potential ofclient.
Observes and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reporting to thephysician the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in the client's condition.
Communicates effectively with all those providing care.
Guides and instructs the client in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activitiesthat are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning.
Instructs client in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic andorthotic devices.
Assists in teaching exercise programs to patient and family.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONS
(EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
) Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six monthsto one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education andexperience.Communicate effectively in English (the primary language of the residents)Work well in a team or aloneOrganized and flexibleComputer proficientMust have at least 2 years' Occupational Therapy Assistant experience.
LANGUAGE
SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
