POSITION SUMMARY
The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides school-based occupational therapy services to students in accordance with Massachusetts Special Education regulations and district procedures. Services include evaluation, intervention, consultation, and collaboration to support students' access to and participation in the general education curriculum and school environment. The OT works with students across a continuum of settings, including general education classrooms, inclusion settings, and substantially separate programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations as part of the special education eligibility process, including assessment of fine motor, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, motor planning, activities of daily living (ADLs), and school-based functional skills Participate as a member of the IEP Team, contributing to eligibility determination, development of measurable goals, and service delivery recommendations Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives aligned to students' educational needs and access to the curriculum Provide direct and/or consultative occupational therapy services in accordance with IEP service delivery grids Collaborate with general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators to support student success across settings Utilize evidence-based practices and occupational therapy frameworks to support student participation in academic, social, and functional school activities Apply knowledge of sensory integration, motor development, and environmental supports to enhance student engagement and regulation Analyze tasks and environments to recommend appropriate accommodations, modifications, and strategies to support student access and independence Assess, recommend, and support the implementation of assistive technology and adaptive equipment; provide written justifications as needed Provide consultation and training to staff and families to support carryover of strategies across school and home environments Maintain compliance with all state and federal special education timelines and documentation requirements, including timely completion of evaluation reports, IEP progress reports, service documentation, and Medicaid billing (if applicable) Monitor and report student progress toward IEP goals in accordance with district procedures and reporting timelines Maintain accurate and organized student records in alignment with district and DESE expectations Ensure safe use and maintenance of therapy equipment and materials Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and district initiatives as required Maintain current licensure and professional competency through ongoing continuing education Support building-based teams in early intervention and problem-solving processes, as appropriate Perform other duties as assigned by administration Full time benefited employees at the Danvers Public Schools are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package offered through the Town of Danvers.
