Position:

Organizational Scope:
This position reports directly to the Director of Student Services with indirect report to the Superintendent as the appointing authority. The Occupational Therapist will collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support student learning and contribute to a positive school environment. Responsibilities also include participating in professional development opportunities and attending meetings as needed to support students, academic programs, and overall school initiatives.
Position Responsibilities:
Supports instructional programming by providing occupational therapy to students as required. Assessment and writing of reports to include recommendations for initial and three year re-evaluations. Will explain, demonstrate and monitor the recommendations suggested in the assessment reports to teachers and instructional assistants. Will suggest and order necessary adaptive equipment for student needs in activities. Will collaborate with the Physical Therapist and Speech and Language Pathologist and at times may engage in a co-treatment model. Consults with school based staff about student during structured meeting times such as student support teams. Implements targeted evidence-based therapeutic intervention plans and monitors and reassess the effects of the intervention through data collection. Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies that affect occupational therapy practices. Teaches, monitors, and collaborates with educational personnel, community agencies, parents and students to increase understanding of students occupational practice and provide learning to the all stakeholders with supporting accommodations and modifications. Supports the MTSS model to provide screening and consult as needed. Working with Occupational therapy collogues to support a robust OT system of criteria and support. Schedules students into appropriate instructional groups. Assists with mobility, transitioning and personal care as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications & Physical Demands:
Must be licensed as Occupational Therapist, classroom experience desired. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology. Have the ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues. Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements of this role vary based on assignment and the age of students served. In general, the position involves the ability to work in a school environment, including standing and walking for extended periods on hard surfaces. The role may also require occasionally lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, reaching, and repositioning as needed. Work is performed in a school setting and typically involves light physical activity. The environment includes regular interaction with students and staff, varying room temperatures, background noise, and frequent transitions or interruptions common in school settings. The position also requires the ability to use a computer and standard office equipment to support instruction and communication. Salary in accordance with the Unit A Salary Scale https://www.nrsd.net/page/nrsd-contracts. The minimum and maximum salary is based on the Bachelors level scale. Candidate review begins immediately.
