SUBJECT:
REGISTERED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
REPORTS TO:
DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND INTERVENTION SERVICES
ACCOUNTABILITY
OBJECTIVE
This position is accountable for working with students within the school system who may have physical, sensory, perceptual, and/or cognitive delays that may be impacting their academic achievements and ability to access the curriculum. The Occupational Therapist collaborates with special and regular education staff around student specific needs and classroom accommodations.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
(to be included along with other responsibilities) 1.Responsible for serving as a member of the Special Education Team in writing educational plans and progress reports on SAGE-IEP, and completing assessments within the required timelines. 2.Responsible for following the student IEP and ensuring compliance with state and federal SPED regulations including the delivery of high quality services, the provision of accommodations/modifications for instruction and assessment and the implementation of 504s. 3.Responsible for conducting screenings and assessments as needed when referred through the SSP or 504 processes. 4.Responsible for the development of written reports following an assessment. 5.Responsible for participating in the development of an IEP or a 504 Accommodation Plan 6.Responsible for the implementation of the Occupational Therapy interventions necessary to comply with the educational plans, in or out of the classroom. Interventions may include but not be limited to lifting, transferring, dressing, exercising, ambulating, positioning, training student and staff with assistive devices, developing home programs, and consulting with other team members when necessary. 7.Responsible for collaboration and consultation to parents, teachers and school staff to insure carryover into the student's academic day. 8.Responsible for the documentation of services provided and student progress towards IEP goals. 9.Responsible for the supervision of the Occupational Therapy Assistants in implementing the recommended intervention. 10.Responsible for maintaining a caseload across multiple schools. Carry necessary equipment/toys needed to meet the needs of the student's when necessary. 11.Responsible for participation in preschool screening and arena assessment, as assigned.. 12.Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, religion, national origin, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, disability or homelessness. 13.Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution recognized by the AOTA. Current certification as an Occupational Therapist from NBCOT. 2.Current valid license to practice Occupational Therapy by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Evidence of good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form. 2.Must be flexible and able to work cooperatively and effectively with the related service providers, as well as, with regular education staff and other school personnel. 3.Three to five years of experience as a school system therapist. 4.Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs 5.Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language.

SALARY:
Salary scale shown is based on the candidate holding a Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral degree. Potential to increase based on degree level.
