Job Description

SUMMARY Provides occupational therapy treatments and/or supervises treatments to assigned adults, utilizes structured activities, equipment and environmental settings to provide persons with specific treatment modalities designed to restore muscle strength, increase the resident s range of motion, increase psycho-social coping skills, improve muscle coordination and expose persons to neurodevelopmental, and sensory-motor exercises.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Serves as a member of an Interdisciplinary team in preparing, implementing and evaluating treatment plans for an assigned case; provides treatment, guidance and instruction to residents in individual and group settings, in successfully developing various skills needed to function in the home, community or working environment. Assesses a resident s performance in activities of daily living, sensory motor development and motor coordination activities by measuring muscle strength, psycho-social abilities and sensory integrative functions. Based upon the assessment, develops an occupational therapy plan of treatment to include long range and short-range goals, methods to achieve goals, anticipated outcomes, and the projected amounts, frequency and duration of services needed to meet the goals. Maintains detailed records and compiles written progress reports which include the type of therapy/treatment administered to residents and an evaluation of the results; reads and analyzes clinical documentation and assessment reports as prepared by other professionals. Communicates and consults with residential and medical staff and others regarding a resident s treatment and progress; participates in Interdisciplinary meetings, team meetings, neurology, orthopedic, and other special consultations in reference to occupational therapy problems. Participation may be in the form of a written report as appropriate. Recommends, designs, fabricates and maintains equipment and therapeutic devices designed to meet the needs of the residents requiring occupational therapy; attends staff meetings to discuss the need and use of adaptive equipment, wheelchair modifications, splinting and positioning techniques; may adapt, construct and make minor repairs to equipment. Provides guidance to residential staff, clinical staff and volunteers in carrying out a person s treatment plans; provides in-service training to staff; may assist in screening educational films for training and developing staff in occupational therapy treatment methods. Work may also require exposure to low to medium amounts of noise in a long-term residential setting. On occasion, the work may require flexible hours outside of normal business hours.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Master s Degree from an approved school of occupational therapy, and possession of a Massachusetts s licensure as a registered Occupational Therapist. At least 2+ years of clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist providing services to adults with developmental disabilities. Possesses the ability to train staff/families in the principles, practices and procedures associated with occupational therapy services for adults. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software applications. Background clearance, physical and drug/alcohol screening.
