Senior Occupational Therapist
JOB SUMMARY
Occupational Therapists help people of all ages to live more independently through the therapeutic use of daily activities and to function effectively at home, work, school, and in the community, by addressing the physical, psychological, and cognitive aspects of their well-being.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Provides, or directs and supervises, therapy intervention consistent with the results of the examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care.
Involves patient/client and appropriate others in the planning, implementation, and assessment of the plan of care.
Reexamines the patient/client as necessary during an episode of care to evaluate progress or change in patient/client status and modifies the plan of care accordingly or discontinues occupational therapy services.
Performs an initial examination and evaluation to establish a diagnosis, prognosis and plan of care prior to intervention for all persons served with rehabilitation needs in acute care, outpatient or inpatient rehabilitation settings (Only needs assistance with rare exceptions, or highly complex cases).
Plans for discharge of the patient/client, taking into consideration achievement of anticipated goals and expected outcomes, and provides for appropriate follow-up or referral, in consultation with appropriate disciplines.
Discontinues intervention when the patient/client is unable to continue to progress toward goals or when the occupational therapist determines that the patient/client will no longer benefit from therapy (in coordination with referring provider/team w indicated).
Responsible for individual and assigned hospital performance improvement, program development, and professional development activities.
Communicates, coordinates, and documents all aspects of patient/client management including the results of the initial examination and evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, plan of care, interventions, response to interventions, barriers to progress, changes in patient/client status relative to the interventions, reexamination, and discharge/discontinuation of intervention and other patient/client management activities with members of the care team as indicated.
Supervises and directs the patient care activities of assigned rehab aides, office assistants, and volunteers.
Manages schedule to accommodate range in census and patient load and informs management of any issues with caseload management.
Attends team meetings and effectively communicates patient status, using, if needed, the medical record or other treating therapists to ensure sufficient knowledge of the case.
Educates and provides consultation to consumers, healthcare professionals, graduate students, and the public regarding the purposes and benefits of therapy.
Mentors and supports students during their clinical practices, in patient-centered care.
Teaches clinicians, community members, other professionals, students, and persons served one on one or in a group setting.
Influences and leads department members towards successful accomplishment of department measures of success.
Serves as a role model of the RISES values and influences others towards successful demonstration of AHC values.
Leads and develops new programs with assistance from manager.
Works at other rehab sites as needed.
Specified shift: Sunday to Thursday, 8:00a to 4:30p
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in Occupational Therapy; minimum 5 years experience as an Occupational Therapist; Maryland Occupational Therapy License; AHA HCP CPR or AHA BLS (CPR and AED) certification, or similar; Nationally recognized certification, such as AOTA or NBCOT, or similar.
