Job Description

Schedule:
Part-Time (Flexible daytime hours; weekends optional depending on program needs)
Location:
Inpatient Adult Psychiatric Unit Position Summary Our inpatient adult mental health unit is seeking a compassionate, creative, and clinically skilled Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary treatment team. This role mirrors the therapeutic engagement style and program structure often led by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS), with a focus on functional skill-building, meaningful activity engagement, and psychosocial wellness.
Key Responsibilities Group & Individual Treatment:
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate therapeutic groups focused on coping skills, emotional regulation, leisure skill development, stress management, sensory modulation, ADL/IADL support, and social participation.
  • Provide 1:1 sessions for patients requiring individualized OT intervention.
  • Adapt activities to match varying cognitive, emotional, and functional abilities.
Treatment Planning & Clinical Documentation:
  • Complete OT assessments identifying barriers to functional performance.
  • Collaborate on treatment plans, goals, and discharge recommendations.
  • Document attendance, participation, and progress according to standards.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other team members.
  • Provide input on coping strategies, behavior, and safety considerations.
  • Participate in meetings and safety huddles.
Program Development:
  • Assist with developing structured weekly programming.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Support special programming such as wellness or creative arts activities. Qualifications
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L).
  • Experience in mental health or inpatient psychiatry preferred.
  • Strong group facilitation skills.
  • Trauma-informed, strengths-based approach.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
