BORDENTOWN REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST JOB GOAL
To plan and provide occupational therapy as a related service in support of eligible students' educational programs, helping each student develop the functional, fine-motor, sensory, and self-care skills needed to access and benefit from instruction in the least restrictive environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE); master's or doctoral degree preferred. Current and valid license to practice occupational therapy in the State of New Jersey, issued by the New Jersey State Board of Occupational Therapy / Occupational Therapy Advisory Council (N.J.S.A. 45:9-37.51 et seq.). Current certification as a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Experience providing occupational therapy to school-age or pediatric populations preferred. Working knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), N.J.A.C. 6
A:
14, and the delivery of related services within the special education process. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with the Child Study Team, instructional staff, related-services providers, and families. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status pursuant to
N.J.S.A. 18A
6-7.1 et seq. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate students referred for occupational therapy, including assessment of fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor and visual-perceptual abilities, postural control, and activities of daily living, to determine the need for occupational therapy as a related service. Participate as a related-services member of the IEP team in the identification, evaluation, eligibility determination, and development of individualized programs in accordance with
N.J.A.C. 6A
14. Develop, implement, and periodically revise individualized occupational therapy intervention plans that are aligned with each student's IEP goals and educational needs. Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services in the least restrictive environment, including push-in, pull-out, and classroom-embedded models as appropriate. Recommend, fit, and train staff and students in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental or instructional modifications. Collect and maintain progress-monitoring data; prepare evaluation reports, progress reports, and documentation required for IEPs and for SEMI/Medicaid reimbursement where applicable. Consult with and provide training to teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents/guardians regarding strategies that support student functioning across school settings. Collaborate with the Child Study Team, school nurses, physical therapists, speech-language specialists, and other staff to ensure coordinated service delivery. Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records in compliance with FERPA, district policy, and applicable state and federal regulations. Adhere to the professional and ethical standards of the occupational therapy profession and maintain required licensure and certification. Order and maintain therapy materials and equipment within budgetary guidelines, and report equipment or facility needs to the Director of Student Services. Perform such other duties consistent with the position as may be assigned by the Director of Student Services or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Eleven-month position. Salary, work year, and benefits in accordance with the applicable negotiated agreement and Board of Education policy.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board of Education policy and applicable provisions of New Jersey law and administrative code governing the evaluation of professional and educational services staff.
