Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Bring your expertise to an impactful role working with students who are blind or visually impaired across multiple districts. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will support K-12 learners, empowering them to achieve greater independence and confidence in their environments. This rewarding contract position involves onsite work at various schools in Greene County and Washington County, providing comprehensive travel instruction and orientation services.
Key Qualifications:
Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) license is required Experience working with children and adolescents, ideally in a school setting Strong assessment, instructional, and report-writing skills Comfortable with a flexible schedule that requires travel between multiple educational sites Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work with educators, families, and other related service providers Ability to design and implement individualized orientation and mobility programs for students with diverse needs
Your Responsibilities:
Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to students across a K-12 caseload Assess students' strengths, needs, and progress; maintain timely records and progress reports Collaborate with teachers, IEP teams, and families to develop and review individualized education and mobility goals Provide consultation, resources, and support to school staff on best practices for students with visual impairments Ensure students' safety and promote self-reliance during travel and navigation activities both within and outside school environments Adapt lessons and routes to accommodate each student's unique learning style and abilities
