Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Coal Center, Pennsylvania Sunbelt Staffing - 3.8 Coal Center, PA Job Details Full-time | Contract 2 days ago Qualifications Visually impaired education Sensory impairments support Full Job Description Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing expert Orientation and Mobility services across a dynamic K-12 caseload. This full-time, contract opportunity involves supporting multiple districts in Greene and Washington Counties, allowing you to deliver essential skills and foster independence for students who are visually impaired. Engage directly with students, staff, and families in an educational environment that values collaboration and professional growth.
Key Qualifications:
Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) license required Experience with K-12 caseloads, ideally across multiple sites or districts Proven ability to travel between various school locations as needed Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse student needs and educational teams Familiarity with assessment tools, goal-setting, and individualized instruction for students with visual impairments
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments to determine students' orientation and mobility needs Create and implement individualized O&M instruction plans Work collaboratively with educators, related service providers, and families to support student progress Deliver direct instruction to students in navigating school and community environments safely and confidently Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports for all students Participate in IEP meetings and serve as a resource for best practices in O&M Travel between school sites within Greene and Washington Counties as part of your weekly schedule As a valued professional in this role, you'll be empowered to shape student outcomes while working closely with a supportive educational network.
