Catherine Hershey Schools-New Danville Pa.POSITION SUMMARY
: The CHS Hershey School Occupational Therapist is an individual who cares deeply about the health and well-being of children. This individual will be responsible for being an active member of the Child Support Team, performing developmental assessments and creating plans to implement occupational therapy services and strategies to children in need of additional supports in the ECE setting. In addition, this individual will provide recommendations for continued skill achievement and monitor the execution of such. This individual will work closely with other members of the CHS staff to help them stay updated on individualized child needs and ways to assist in the progress towards goal achievement. The occupational therapist reports to the Health Services Manager; At Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning (CHS), we are passionate about nurturing children, empowering families, and strengthening communities through high-quality early childhood education. We provide year-round weekday care and education to children from six weeks to age five from under-resourced and overburdened backgrounds, with all costs covered for qualifying families. As a subsidiary of Milton Hershey School, CHS is part of a $350 million initiative to develop six Early Childhood Education Centers across Pennsylvania.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serving children aged six weeks to five years at CHS programs
- Conduct developmental screenings and assessment, as needed
- Deliver treatment services and provide evaluation, and recommended services for children experiencing physical, social, emotional or mental delays in fine motor, sensory motor, attention, self-regulation and/or adaptive functioning (feeding, if applicable)
- Maintain effective communication with families and all CHS departments
- Collaborate with multiple disciplines and participate in the Child Support Teams to determine best practices and support for children
- Consultation with parents/caregivers to recommend interventions, skills practices and strategies
- Provide CHS center staff with recommendations on classroom accommodations or equipment to facilitate skill development
- Maintain documentation in accordance with CHS guidelines
- Ensure that treatment notes and progress are effectively represented in documentation
- Collaborate with additional external partners in creating and implementing child's plan of care
- Exhibit Professionalism at all times
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of CHS, DHS, certification requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standards and patient rights
- Ability to work in a team-like atmosphere, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of therapists, teaching staff, family success team and families
- Exhibiting positive relations towards children and staff when responding to questions and communications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The CHS Occupational Therapist is expected to have the following qualifications:- MS/OTD in Occupational Therapy or BS with equivalent work experience
- Successful completion of State Certification Examination for Occupational Therapy
- 3+ years of experience in pediatric Occupational Therapy service
- Current License to practice in Pennsylvania
- CPR Certification
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Responsible, enthusiastic, and cares about working in a mission-focused environment
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to effectively work with low-income families (preferred)
- Ability to proactively identify problems and implement solutions
- Willingness to be held accountable and receive feedback
- Comfortability with technology including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and/or willingness to learn
