Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract This contract opportunity is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support visually impaired students for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year in Lewisburg, PA. The role focuses on conducting comprehensive evaluations and delivering instructional services to promote safe and effective travel skills for students with visual impairments.
Responsibilities include:
Participating in referral and assessment processes for visually impaired students Conducting evaluations to determine orientation, mobility, and sensory development needs Developing tailored
IEP/IFSP
goals and instructional plans based on student assessments Providing direct orientation and mobility instruction and consulting with school staff, families, and community members Ordering, distributing, and maintaining canes and low-vision travel devices Monitoring and reporting student progress using ongoing criterion-based assessments Conducting in-service training programs for staff and families Advising on safe and efficient environmental adaptations within the school setting Maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with service requirements Maintaining a valid state driver's license and readiness to drive as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility Current certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through ACVREP Experience working with visually impaired students in educational settings This position offers a rewarding chance to directly impact students' independence and safety within a dynamic school environment.
