Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract A school district in Muncy, PA is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support visually impaired students for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This contract position requires expertise in assessing and addressing the orientation and mobility needs of students with visual impairments within an educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in referral and assessment processes for visually impaired students Conduct comprehensive evaluations covering concept development, orientation, safe travel techniques, low vision device use, sensory development, self-advocacy, and personal safety Develop tailored Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) goals related to orientation and mobility Recommend program modifications or specialized services based on student needs Design and implement instructional plans providing direct orientation and mobility services Order, distribute, and maintain canes and low-vision travel devices Monitor and report student progress using ongoing, criterion-based assessments Collaborate with school staff, other professionals, families, and community members Conduct in-service training sessions for educators, families, and communities Maintain accurate documentation of services and lesson plans Provide guidance on designing safe and accessible environments Maintain a valid driver's license and be available to drive as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) This opportunity is ideal for a qualified OMS professional interested in applying specialized skills in a school setting to positively impact students' independence and safety.
