Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Empower students to achieve greater independence with a rewarding contract opportunity as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Work collaboratively with educators and families to support students with visual impairments, helping them develop the confidence and skills necessary to navigate their school and community environments safely and effectively.
Key Qualifications:
Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in an educational setting Strong ability to evaluate student needs and develop tailored instructional plans Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments Flexibility to adapt strategies according to student progress and feedback
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments Develop and implement individualized instructional programs to enhance independent travel skills Teach spatial awareness, cane techniques, use of assistive technology, and safe travel practices within the school, home, and community settings Collaborate closely with educators, related service providers, and families to ensure holistic student support Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with school and district guidelines Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to planning and goal setting for each student This contract role offers an engaging environment where your professional skills and compassion create meaningful outcomes.
